BETHEL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 418 Beatty Road, Monroeville, PA 15146 Communion Service Seventh Sunday after Pentecost July 7, 2013 Celebration of Worship Rev. Nancy Titus 11:00 AM Color: White Office: (412) 372-4716 *Please stand if you are able. Bold Words Congregational Responses PRELUDE WELCOME AND GREETING (Please sign and pass the attendance sheets) CALL TO WORSHIP Pastor: Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon s Portico. People: None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women. Pastor: All: They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. Let us worship God! *PRAISE TUNE I ve Got Peace Like a River BFS #22 PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Merciful God, We confess that we are guilty of envying others. Though we have been given so much, we are resentful when we see someone who has more than we do. We can t resist comparing ourselves to others and either feeling arrogant or inadequate. Forgive our jealous temperament. Help us to cultivate an attitude of compassion rather than competition. Create in us a more gracious heart; one eager to forgive and to forebear and to rejoice with others. Hear also the silent concerns of our hearts. SILENT PERSONAL CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Pastor: The Psalmist asks himself, Why are you so downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put our hope in God, for I will yet praise Him! We have confessed our sins, let us put our hope in God s mercy and praise His Name! Friends, believe the Good News! People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven, AMEN. The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Pass the peace to your pew neighbors. *ANNOUNCEMENTS PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND MORNING PRAYER THE LORD S PRAYER (unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. So far two students have registered to attend Camp Crestfield. Consider the dates that your child may attend this valuable faith building opportunity for young persons. This year's full scholarships available are an added bonus to attendance, so please speak with Pastor Nancy or Nancy Dalverny for further details. Pick up a brochure from the back table and look over the variety of opportunities. Although the times will remain the same, our summer session series is entitled, "The Summer Sunshine of God's Grace!". We will resume our study of ancestors with our popular series, "Ancestors Speak - Lessons for Everyday Life" in the fall. Also, we plan to continue the youth "choir" as they sing the anthem along with the congregation. Thank you all for your support of our Christian education program at Bethel! Coffee/Tea time after the worship service extending the hospitality and welcome of Christ enjoying refreshments and fellowship. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the back of the sanctuary to be a host in July and August. Thank you! 2013 FLOWER CALENDAR is posted in the back sanctuary. Fresh flowers are $30 for one Sunday. If two families/people (and one from each community) would like to share one Sunday, the cost will be $15 per person. (If there is no room to write your intent, you can call the church office or leave a note in Dana s mailbox.) A memorial donation can be made to the church instead of using fresh flowers. Artificial arrangements will be provided. (Please mark artificial on the flower calendar and your check.)
