ONE GENERATION SHALL COMMEND YOUR WORKS TO ANOTHER... - PSALM 145:4 2

LETTER FROM PASTOR DAVID It is hard to believe that for 25 years we have been experiencing the grace of God here at West Houston Chinese Church! Beginning in 1991 as a church plant of about 40 families, we are now a church of 1,000+ people while having planted churches in Katy, Access, the Woodlands (NHCC), and even abroad - the Lord has blessed us to continue to experience His work of transformation and multiplication. Over the years, I have personally experienced and observed how sin and brokenness have brought pain and affliction into the lives of different generations; however, I have also been privileged to experience and see up close, how the life-giving purposes of God can redeem, heal, and transform the generations through godly legacy and missional passions. As we enter into a crucial period of leadership transition, I am inspired by King David s declaration of how one generation shall commend your works to another (Psalm 145:4). This vision of TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS is about equipping a NEW GENERATION of Christ-following leaders who will stand strong and exercise spiritual influence in their homes and workplaces, while impacting THIS GENERATION by continuing to plant strong, reproducing churches locally, cross-culturally, and abroad in obedience to the Great Commission. TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS is a strategic vision for our world today. It says that we are not to be a comfortable church; rather, Jesus wants this church to be a missional community where future generations will thrive and live out the transforming purpose of God, as we impact our city and the world by planting strong, reproducing churches, to reach all people for Christ. I invite us as a church to answer this call by joining in on this great adventure of transforming the generations for His praise and glory. David Hsu, Senior Pastor 3

A VISION RENEWED Flowing out of our church-planting DNA and our dream of becoming a disciple-making, missional church, TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS contains three major components that will challenge us to grow both in our faith and in our generosity: DISCIPLING Develop a discipleship culture to raise a generation of leaders who will bring the power of the Gospel in their spheres of influence. EQUIPPING Build a strong missions base and outreach center that will mobilize our generation, and train and send workers into the missions field. PLANTING Plant churches that proclaim hope, share grace, and multiply in Houston and abroad for years to come. 4 THE AR DAUN CHALLE TRANSFO BUT WIT HELP OF T WE WILL THESE MO AND BEC TRANSFORMING

DISCIPLING TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS will: Develop a discipleship roadmap with curriculum and training that disciples a new generation of Christ-followers every two years; Disciple our people to become hope-proclaiming, grace-sharing, and reproducing agents of life transformation in our homes, schools, and workplaces; Grow our prayer ministry by cultivating a passion for prayer that is marked by a strong sense of biblical hope born out of the spiritual discipline of daily communion with God. EQUIPPING TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS will: Mobilize, equip, and send out the next generation of leaders and missionaries who will continue the work of W s ministry here and around the world; 6 Complete the next phase of facility improvements to continue W s growth momentum into the future as a strong missions base; Formally launch a joint missions association between sister churches for the purpose of mutual support, accountability and joint missions and future planting.

PLANTING TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS will: Build up our church planting fund to $1.2 million that will resource future church planting projects for the next 10 years; Prayerfully launch church plants in our city (such as the NW/Cypress area, near 290 and the Grand Parkway) as well as plant cross-culturally through strategic partnerships; Encourage our NHCC brothers and sisters and fulfill our commitment to support our NHCC church plant in the Woodlands. 7

How you can respond: PRAY. TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS is a challenging vision for our church that comes out of a desire to act on the Great Commission and can only be realized by God s grace. Without it, we will never accomplish something so expansive. Join us as we PRAY: For the Lord to open our hearts, to enlarge our faith, and to desire God s plan for our future. For the next generation of leaders to be discipled and equipped to be influencers in their spheres of influence. For the resources necessary to plant hopeproclaiming, grace-sharing, reproducing churches both in our city and abroad. W has had such a profound impact on the life of the Moy s. Over 12 years, God used W to transform our desires toward Him, to equip us for His work, to give us a continuing hunger for Christ-centered community... After leaving W in 2009, God continued to move and use our family for church planting work both in Los Angeles and now Charlotte, something that would not have been possible without the journey we traveled at W. - Andrew & Mei Moy 8

WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME, THIS I WILL DO, THAT THE FATHER MAY BE GLORIFIED IN THE SON. - JOHN 14:13 9

GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS... - MATTHEW 28:19 10

How you can respond: GO. Over the next five years, we want to see God move in our people to lead them to go and proclaim hope and share grace so that lives would be transformed by Christ in their schools, their homes, their workplaces, and out into the world. As you pray over the next five years, ask God if he is calling you out of your comfort zone and GO: share the gospel to your classmate, your family member, your coworker; on a short term trip again or for the very first time; reach the unreached people groups around the world. God never called us to be comfortable, but to be faithful... to be the hands and feet of Jesus to bless many more people by proclaiming hope and sharing grace for life transformation in Christ Jesus. - Ric and Jocelyn Sun, WHCC Seminarians 11

How you can respond: GIVE. As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate the life of Jesus, who gave both sacrificially and joyfully (Heb 12:2). Our lives, too, should be characterized by one that gives generously, whether it is our time, talent, or treasure. Over the past 25 years, God has faithfully blessed us and as part of this vision, we are asking you to prayerfully consider where you are on the journey to generosity and take another step forward in your giving. Please refer to the Commitment Card located at the back of the brochure as you seek God s leading on how you will grow in your generosity to W. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. (Luke 12:48b) In the past 30 years, I realized that all this is amazing grace: that He should entrust much with me far beyond I can imagine or ask or deserve. And every time I receive His calling to use what I have been given for His kingdom, I have experienced the satisfying joy of His precious presence. - A sister at W 12

EACH ONE MUST GIVE AS HE HAS DECIDED IN HIS HEART, NOT RELUCTANTLY OR UNDER COMPULSION, FOR GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER. - 2 CORINTHIANS 9:7 13

GROWING IN GENEROSITY! TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS is about challenging ourselves to take a significant step of faith to grow in our discipleship and stewardship two intertwined aspects of our faith. As we grow in our discipleship we grow in our stewardship, and as we grow in our stewardship we grow in our discipleship. The two concepts work together, to mold us to be more like Jesus. TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS requires us all to grow in our generosity. Honoring and following God with our stewardship results in an impact in the lives of those around us. In God s economy, our heightened generosity can not only help transform lives but whole generations. STEPPING UP THE GENEROSITY LADDER The Generosity Ladder helps us evaluate our current level of stewardship and generosity. TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS will challenge each of us to grow in our faith by rising to the next level of God-pleasing generosity and stewardship. Everyone has a place in TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS. Together, as we grow in our discipleship and in our stewardship by faith, we will see and experience God move and do more than we can ever imagine. Through proclaiming hope and sharing grace, we desire to see not only the next generation of leaders transformed through discipling, equipping, and church planting, but our current generation as well. TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS is the opportunity to accomplish both. Will you join us on the journey? 14 EXTRAVAGANT TITHING INTENTIONAL OCCASIONA L FIRST TIME

TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS REQUIRES GROWING IN GENEROSITY. 15

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What are you asking me to do? We are inviting you to pray and seek God to lead you in this journey as we begin a period of sacrificial giving and spiritual renewal. If applicable, talk with your spouse and family about what this commitment means for you. By making a two-year commitment (from March 2016 to March 2018), we will together grow in our generosity according to God s call. What makes hope-proclaiming and grace-sharing important to this vision? At the core of this vision is not just accomplishing projects, but our transformation as a people. Our world today is in desperate need of the real hope of the Gospel and God s redeeming grace, and we believe these are crucial qualities that set us apart as Christ followers. We have been commanded to set our hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1Peter 1:13) and to love onev another as good stewards of God s manifold grace (1Peter 4:10). Hope-proclaiming and grace-sharing are especially important for Asian-Americans where our performance-oriented culture often struggle with the concept of grace. Why should we devote so much energy and resources to external projects like church planting when we can do more to meet internal needs and serving local community needs? We definitely want to improve on how we are meeting the various internal needs here at W and grow in our local community outreach. However, we will always have internal needs. These internal needs did not prevent First Century churches from Holy Spirit s call to missions and church planting, and it should be the same with us. W has engaged in missions around the world ever since her very beginning, with youth short-term trips to Mexico and training for house church leaders in China. Our vision is a GLOCAL vision both global and local. And we believe much of the Lord s blessings on W have come through our involvement in missions around the world. If I commit to TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS how does this change my giving to other funds, such as missions, church planting, or benevolence? During this two-year period, every contribution to God through WHCC is a contribution to TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS where it will go towards the general fund where it will be distributed to where it is needed most unless you designate your offering to a specific fund (missions, church planting, benevolence) on the memo line of your check. 16

What if I am new around here? What if I have never given to WHCC before? TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS is about the vision of our church, which makes this is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about us and get involved! We would really love for you to make W your church home and join us during this exciting time. If I am already giving to WHCC, should I increase that amount for TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS? We desire for everyone to engage in radical and sacrificial generosity during the next two years. Yes, for many this means increasing our financial contributions. God is honored by our generosity when it comes as an overflow of God s love and grace in our lives and an excitement to be used by him. We do not want you to give out of guilt or obligation, but to joyfully give back what the Lord has abundantly given. Would this vision be affected by the current economic reality in Houston right now? What if I am struggling financially? We believe that our God is never limited by any earthly circumstances. Part of our legacy is how our churches have grown through the oil busts of the 1980 s and 90 s. It is our belief that this vision, while challenging, is well within the financial strength of our church, which has been extraordinarily blessed by God. We believe that God will receive greater glory and we will grow more in faith because the success of this vision will not be built upon economic prosperity, but by the continual faithfulness of our God and the generosity and glad obedience of His people. What obstacles stand in the way of this vision? While there are a number of challenges to overcome in this vision (such as communication of the vision, unity in the body, the economic condition), perhaps the most dangerous obstacles we face are complacency and indifference. If we should be complacent about our future, or if we show an indifference to the vision challenge before us, then we will not succeed. We cannot accomplish this vision on our own strength. Transforming Generations is an ambitious and challenging vision that will require a deep conviction of faith and humility as we move forward. Can I give online? Yes! In addition to the weekly church offerings during the worship services, you can give online at whcchome.org/give. Where can I find more information? Visit transforminggenerations.org 17
