Grand Council Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada Sovereign Grand Master s Address 2016 Most Venerable the Past Sovereign Grand Masters, Most Worshipful the Grand Master of the order of the Allied Masonic Degrees of England, Wales and Districts and Councils Oversees, Distinguished guests, Grand Council Officers and my Brethren, Greetings. It is indeed my pleasure to welcome you to beautiful Victoria, British Columbia to celebrate our 32th Annual Assembly of the Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada. I hope that you are enjoying your time with us and have set aside time to visit the City and Island. AMD IN CANADA This past year has again seen growth and prosperity to the Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada. Brethren. I had the honour to Consecrate two councils this year, Borealis in Edmonton, AB August Aug. 29, 2015 and Golden Horseshoe in Beamsville, ON Nov. 7, 2015. I found the work of the members of both these Councils excellent and a credit to the AMD of Canada. I know that both will have a long life and prosperity. I thank the Brethren who accompanied me to assist is this memorable experience. A number of Brethren commented that they had never seen or been involved in a Consecration during their Masonic career. We have received the applications from Peace Council UD and Atlantic Council UD to granted their Charters at this Grand Assembly. If this is approved the plan is to Consecrate Peace Council on October 13, 2016 and Atlantic Council on Oct 29, 2016. I invite all AMD members to join us on these very special occasions. It is great to read the notices from the Councils and see the number of candidates being initiated. When I visited the Grand Chapters in this Canada I

heard about a number of new Royal Arch Masons joining their ranks and we must make an effort to contact these Companions and inform them about what AMD can offer. A number of Dispensation were granted this year for moving of meeting nights and change of meeting locations. District 5 On January 26, 2016 Rt. Ven. Bro. Eastwood KC DDGM elect passed to the Grand Council above. Rt. Ven. Bro. Bob Alderson KGC had been filling in for him until his heath improved. I accepted the resignation of Rt. Ven. Bro. Alderson KGC and appointed Rt. Ven. Bro. Adam Thompson KGC, on the recommendation of Capital City Council #154 to the position of DDGM of District 5 and installed him at the regular meeting of Capital City Council 154 om June 6, 2016. Visitations to Canadian Councils Brethren, I am please to report that I was able to visited 12 Councils this year and am looking forward to visiting the others in the coming year. At each of these meetings I was received as per protocol and Grand Honours were accorded. I enjoyed the meetings and the fellowship and met old friends and made many new ones. I had the pleasure of hearing many informative papers, taking part in Installations, degrees and some lively discussions. There is a real passion for AMD among the brethren. Visitations to and Recognition by Other Grand Bodies During the year I received invitations and attended The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons British Columba & Yukon, The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Quebec, The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Manitoba, The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Alberta, The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Saskatchewan, and the Grand Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor of Canada of the Brotherhood of David and Jonathan. I was invited to bring greeting from the AMD of Canada in many of these occasions. In October I was invited by the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan AF&AM to attend an Area meeting. I had the honour of accompanying him in his party and invited to bring greetings and speak about the Allied Masonic Degrees.

I would like to thank the following Brethren for representing me at: M. Ven. Bro Prince Selveraj SGC Grand Council Allied Masonic Degrees of USA Rt. Ven. Bro. Bil Segui KGC Grand Council of R&S Masons of Canada Rt. Ven. Bro. Alastair Ross KGC Grand Council of R&S Masons of Western Canada Rt. Ven. Bro. Brian Rountree KGC Grand Council of Allied Masonic Degrees of Romania Ven. Bro Gerald Budden Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Newfoundland & Labrador Four of these events were held on the same weekend. I have been informed that the Grand Lodge of Alberta AF&AM has approved formal recognition of the Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada As you can see acknowledgement of AMD is growing across Canada To the Distinguished Guests and Visiting Brethren: Brethren it is a pleasure to have you with us. We are delighted by your presence and hope that you have enjoyed your stay and that you will return home with many fond memories of this weekend To the Most Venerable Past Grand Masters: Thank you for your support and dedication to our Order and for your help and advice over the past year. To our Deputy Grand Master R. Ven. Bro. Bil Sequi KGC: Thank you for your assistance and support. Your vast experience is an asset to this Grand Council. To our Grand Secretary R. Ven. Bro. Brian Rountree KGC: Brian, I cannot thank you enough for your dedication and service to this Grand Body. During my travels this year, many times I received accolades for your efficiency and communications when dealing with our Councils. I thank you for your advice and help this past year. To the Grand Officers Grand Representatives and Chairman of various Committees:

Thank you for your dedication and service to this Grand Body. To the appointed Officers who are finishing their terms today I wish you the very best in your future endeavours and hope that you consider running for an elected office in the future. To the new officers I look forward to working with you this year. I very special thank you to Rt. Ven. Bro. John Reynolds KGC who is retiring as Editor of the Architect after 13 years of service, words cannot express our gratitude for your hard work and dedication in producing an excellent publication each year. To the members of Victoria Council #213 (Host council) Thank you for the hard work in organizing this Grand session. We will leave here this weekend with great memories of our visit to Victoria. Next Steps: During my visits this year I have stressed the need for research and presentation of papers and discussions this is the purpose of AMD. Unfortunately, we have been receiving fewer papers for publication in the Architect. Secretaries please remember to forward your council s papers to the Grand Secretary with your annual returns. When I read the summons I see papers in the agenda but why not use the notice to inform what papers are to be given, or have the author write a short description to be inserted in the summons. Have you thought of having the papers at the start of the meeting and leave the business until after? This may inspire members and visitors to attend. In order to encourage visiting between Councils list the dates and meeting places of the other Councils in your Districts. Secretaries, if you get an electronic notice from another Council why not forward it to you members. Thank you Brethren for taking the time to be with us today. I wish you safe travels home and look forward to seeing you during my travels and in Sarnia ON. Next year. Sincerely and Fraternally M. Ven. Bro. Robert Turner SGC
