All children are welcome here, but we know that a fussy baby is much louder to a parent s ears than to any of ours. If you have need: We have a nursery down the main stairs and to the left. It is staffed with volunteers, who will gladly care for any little ones who show up at the beginning of the service. If there are none, the volunteers will come up to the sanctuary, the nursery room will remain available. There is also a diaper change station in the Nursery and in both downstairs restrooms. We have a speaker in the narthex so that you DIY soothers can listen while you walk the little ones around. Except on communion Sundays, there is Children's church for ages 4 through grade 2. When there is Children's church, children will be dismissed after the Children's Time part of the service. Worship Service Notes ANNOUNCEMENTS YOUTH GROUP Youth Group will have its first meeting tonight starting at 6 pm at the church, dinner is provided. SAVE THE DATE FOR GSPC S 40 TH ANNIVERSARY On Sunday, October 7 th, we will be celebrating the 40 th Anniversary of Good Samaritan. We will have a special worship service at 10:15 with a luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Please plan to attend. We hope to have some previous members join us for this special occasion. FRIENDS WHO LUNCH The Friends Who Lunch will meet together on Tuesday, October 9 th, with a luncheon at Chevys in Brandywine. They will meet there at 12:00 noon. Please plan to join us for good food and great fellowship. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex. GSPC ANNUAL CRAFT BAZAAR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3 rd SAVE THE DATE In less than seven weeks GSPC will host its Annual Craft Bazaar. The Crafters have been hard at work preparing for the Bazaar, but they can use your help. This is another one of Good Samaritan s big fundraisers and it takes a lot of preparation. If you are crafty, like to sew, or maybe your passion is baking then now is the time to help if you can. Work on your own crafts at home. Handmade items that you have made are welcome. If you have any questions, please contact the church office or join the GSPC Crafters on Mondays at 10:30.

FIRST READING JAMES 5: 13-20 13 Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. 14 Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth yielded its harvest. 19 My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and is brought back by another, 20 you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner s soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. SECOND READING MARK 9: 38-50 38 John said to Jesus, Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us. 39 But Jesus said, Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 Whoever is not against us is for us. 41 For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward. 42 If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell, 48 where their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched. 49 For everyone will be salted with fire. 50 Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.

We are pleased that you have chosen to worship with us today. There are fellowship pads at the end of the row, please pass them, and sign them, so that you can learn the names of those who are sitting near you and so that they can know yours as well. Provide other information as desired. After the service, talk to old friends and meet some new ones. We have snacks and coffee downstairs. We have a platform lift for anyone who doesn t do well with stairs, see an usher for assistance. Please be mindful that as we prepare for worship we are entering sacred space and sacred time. Please turn off cell phones and refrain from using other electronic media. * * * * * * * * Today's Volunteers: Greeters: Flora Family (10:15); Acolyte: Ella Luton; Ushers: Peggy Hancock and Charlie Eargle (10:15); Readers: Jack Crews and Kathie Gerrity (10:15); Nursery Volunteers: Sandy Webb and Tyler Flora; Coffee Hour: Kriebel Family Mon. Open Up the Heavens We ve waited for this day; we ve gathered in Your name. Calling out to You. Your glory like a fire, awakening desire, will burn our hearts with Truth. You re the reason we re here. You re the reason we re singing. (CHORUS) Open up the heavens. We want to see You. Open up the floodgates, a mighty river Flowing from your heart, filling every part of our praise. Your presence in this place, Your glory on our face, we re looking to the sky. Descending like a cloud, You re standing with us now; Lord, unveil our eyes. You re the reason we re here. You re the reason we re singing. Show us, show us Your glory. Show us, show us Your power. Show us, show us Your glory, Lord. Show us, show us Your glory. Show us, show us Your power. Show us, show us Your glory, Lord. We want to see You. We want to see You. Who Am I? Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth would care to know my name, Would care to feel my hurt? Light the Fire I stand to praise You, but I fall on my knees. My spirit is willing, but my flesh is so weak. (men first, women echo) So, light the fire in my soul. (Light the fire...in my weary soul) Fan the flame.make me whole. (Fan the flame Make my spirit whole.) Lord You know where I ve been. Lord You know where I ve been. So light the fire in my heart again. I feel Your arms around me, as the power of Your healing begins. Your Spirit moves through me, like a mighty rushing wind. Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star would choose to light the way For my ever wandering heart. Not because of who I am, but because of what You ve done, Not because of what I ve done, but because of who you are. I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow. A wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind. Still you hear me when I m calling, Lord You catch me when I m falling. And You ve told me who I am. I am Yours. I am Yours. Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin would look on me with love And watch me rise again. Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea would call out through the rain And calm the storm in me.
