PRAISE SONGS Here In This Place (ELW 532) 1.Here in this place new light streaming, Now is the darkness vanished away; See in this space our fears and our dreamings, Bought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in, the lost and forsaken Gather us in, the blind and the lame; Call to us now, and we shall awaken, We shall arise at the sound of our name. 2.We are the young, our lives are a mystery, We are the old who yearn for your face; We have been sung throughout all of history. Called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in, the rich and the haughty, Gather us in, the proud and the strong; Give us a heart so meek and so lowly, Give us the courage to enter the song. 3.Here we will take the wine and the water, Here we will take the bread of new birth, Here you shall call your sons and your daughters, Call us anew to be salt for the earth. Give us to drink the wine of compassion, Give us to eat the bread that is you. Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion Lives that are holy and hearts that are true. 4. Not in the dark of buildings confining, Not in some heaven, light years away. Here in this place the new light is shining, Now is the kingdom, and now is the day. Gather us in and hold us forever, Gather us in and make us your own; Gather us in, all peoples together, Fire of love in our flesh and our bone

Make Me A Servant Make me a servant, humble and meek. Lord, let me lift up those who are weak. And may the prayer of my Heart always be; Make me a servant, Make me a servant, Make me a servant today. Make me a servant, humble and meek. Lord, let me lift up those who are weak. And may the prayer of my Heart always be; Make me a servant, Make me a servant, Make me a servant today. OPENING PRAYER WL: We praise you, O God, for you are the One who reigns over all and yet you bow down to serve all creation. Send your Spirit upon us so that we might catch a glimpse of the wisdom of service. Help us to be willing to lower ourselves to serve others and raise them up. Amen. CHILDREN S CHAT: Blessing of the Backpacks SCRIPTURE READINGS: FIRST READING: Proverbs 25:6-7 [Intro: The book of Proverbs is part of a collection of writings known as wisdom literature. Wisdom literature gave directions to Israel s leaders and people for the conduct of daily life. Today s reading is about humility.] 6 Do not put yourself forward in the king s presence or stand in the place of the great; 7 for it is better to be told, Come up here, than to be put lower in the presence of a noble. AM: Word of God, word of life. C: Thanks be to God. SECOND READING: Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16 [Intro: The conclusion of the letter to the Hebrews contains suggestions for the conduct of a holy life, all of which are shaped by God s love toward us in Jesus Christ.] 1 Let mutual love continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured. 4 Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, I will never leave you or forsake you. 6 So we can say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me? 7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 15 Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. AM: Word of God, word of life. C: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL READING: Luke 14:1, 7-14 P: The Gospel according to Luke, the 14 th chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord. [Intro: Jesus observes guests jockeying for position at the table. He uses the opportunity to teach his hearers to choose humility rather than self-exaltation. Jesus also makes an appeal for hosts to mimic God s gracious hospitality to the poor and the broken.] 1 On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely. 7 When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. 8 When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honor, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; 9 and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, Give this person your place, and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, Friend, move up higher ; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. 11 For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. 12 He said also to the one who had invited him, When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. 14 And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. P: The Gospel of the Lord C: Praise to you O Christ. MESSAGE Today s Special: Humility

APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. INSTALLATION OF LAY PROFESSIONAL: Jeff Engroff Director of Children, Youth, & Family Ministries PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AM Rooted in Christ and rising to serve, let us pray for the church, the world, and all in need. A brief silence. O God, guide leaders who speak your word to your people. Use your church s powerful witness and genuine invitation to welcome all to your banquet table. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. We thank you for tables of abundant food. Bless crops, farms, and industries, that as co-creators with you, we may provide responsibly from the earth for the sake of all. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Break the bonds of captivity and injustice. Work in leaders and nations to bring peace and to advocate for the least of these. Especially we pray for.... Hear us, O God Your mercy is great. Heal and comfort those we hold in our hearts and those who have asked for our prayers (especially). Bring hope to prisoners, refugees, and outsiders. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Strengthen marriages, families, and friendships with mutual love and respect. Bless our congregation to be a place of support and care for healthy relationships. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Here other intercessions may be offered. Add appropriate petitions of your own. Pastor JMe will conclude the prayers.

Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace 1. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, Let me bring your love; Where there is injury, Your pardon Lord; And where there is doubt, True faith in you. 2. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is despair in life, Let me bring hope; Where there is darkness, only light; And where there is sadness, ever joy. 3. O Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love with all my soul. 4. Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, In giving of ourselves that we receive, And in dying that we re Born to eternal life. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION WL: O God, as a mother comforts her child, so you comfort your people, carrying us in your arms and satisfying us with this food and drink, the body and blood of Christ.
