In Desperate Need of Prayer As I think of my beloved Latin America - with its 500 million hard working people, its vast pool of natural resources, and its seemingly limitless potential for growth and global influence - my heart aches, and I can only quote a proverb that describes our current state: Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained. (Prov. 28:9) Probably no other area in the world is a more vivid example of wasted opportunities. With the majority of the population under 25, drugs, alcohol, unrestrained sex, gang violence and empty narcissism now seem to rule the hearts and minds of a generation that should be preparing to take the reins of the future. After surviving decades of civil wars, political upheavals and failed social experiments, we experienced a brief period of progress in the mid 90 s, only to fall back into a bottomless pit of corrupt leaders, narco-states, bankrupt economies, clown dictators and populist governments. Even the explosive growth of Evangelicalism during and after these civil conflicts has not proven to help stop the tide of disgrace. Very shallow discipleship and unhealthy emphasis on numeric growth has stumped the impact of the church. It is a paradox that countries with the largest percentages of born again believers are the very ones suffering the most from violence, corruption and poverty. We are in desperate need of prayer and a pouring out of God s Spirit. We call on believers around the world to claim a divine intervention that will capture the hearts and minds of the people of God to build movements to extend God s rule in this part of the world. Six hundred CCC staff members, together with thousands of volunteers in 26 countries are working tirelessly in every major city of Latin America and the Caribbean to present the gospel as God s provision to a land desperate for real solutions that change people from the inside out. In every city where CCC is active, we are witnessing the power of God to change lives, heal hearts and restore broken relationships. The hope of Latin America and the Caribbean is the hundreds of spiritual movements springing up in campuses, high schools, military bases, churches, neighborhoods, executive boards, etc. Please join us in prayer for Latin America and the Caribbean. Please pray that God will use our ministry to help bring thousands of present and future leaders into His Kingdom. When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices Layo Leiva Area Director - Latin America and the Caribbean Campus Crusade for Christ International Monday, 8 October Colombia Joshua 1:8 Ask God to send laborers and full-time staff members to Vida para Colombia (CCCI in Colombia) who are filled with the power of his Holy Spirit. Tuesday, 9 October Costa Rica Joshua 1:9 May God continue His work through the university students who participated in projects (1) to an indigenous tribe and (2) others to Mexico City. Wednesday, 10 October Curacao Joshua 1:10-11 Please pray for more laborers, additional dedicated student leaders and for legal acceptance on campus. About 180 students are currently involved. Thursday, 11 October Ecuador Joshua 1:12-13 National Conference, early November: Pray that many new student leaders will be trained well to begin new movements in their universities. 3

Latin America and the Caribbean Area The Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Area is composed of a sensational blend of cultures that consists of the flair of Brazil, the spice of Mexico, the passion of South America, the fervor of Central America and the celebration of the Caribbean. There are more than 500 million people in the LAC Area. Though the culture consists of Christian/Roman Catholic roots, the transformational impact in society has been minimal. Since the early 19th century, there has been a presence of evangelicals but with a tendency toward legalism and anti-catholicism, which sadly distorts the true message of the gospel. There are 46 countries in LAC, and Campus Crusade for Area Student-led Movements Team Christ has a ministry presence in 26 of them. We have a few stage 2 countries, and the rest are the more fully developed stage 1 countries. There are 600 full-time CCC staff members in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the LAC Area college students number more than 18.8 million. Eight countries have active, robust studentled movements (SLM). We have a virtual SLM Team that is helping to equip and empower current ministries and also launch new ones. For two years there has been an SLM Emerging Leaders Initiative, and 45 campus leaders from 17 countries have been participating. As a result a new generation of campus leaders are empowering students and volunteers to lead a multiplying movement of evangelism and discipleship. Friday, 12 October Ecuador Joshua 1:14-15 Spiritual warfare is raging amidst those of traditional religion backgrounds. Pray for Values Formation Schools conducted in the Guayaquil Armada. Saturday, 13 October Guyana Joshua 1:16 Pray that those active in nine discipleship groups at various workplaces will live holy lives and be examples and strong testimonies for God s grace. 4

Student Day On August 11 we celebrate The Day of the Student. This is an official holiday in Brazil. The Student Movement in Rio decided to take advantage of this observance to promote a prayer journey for the universities. They created the site www. diadoestudante.com.br to mobilize prayer among the student movements and other Christians in the city. At the beginning, the intention was a prayer movement only in Rio. But through the online social networks, students from other cities in Brazil got involved as well. There was a 24-hour prayer chain from August 10-11. On the tenth there was a celebration where students, volunteers and partners came together to pray and worship the Lord. We don t yet know what impact these days will have on Brazil s campuses. But the Bible teaches us: The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16b) Freshman Reception From April 9-13 we also held a special Freshman Reception in Fortaleza. This was the third time for this event, and every year God increases our faith during the preparation time. Beginning two weeks before the event, we purposely initiated a 24-7 week of prayer. There was a house where people could go simply to pray - in different ways - talking, singing, painting, in silence, etc.). We sensed that setting apart those days for prayer was very special and a critical part of preparing for the reception. Very soon we saw many answers to our prayers. One of our specific requests concerned the printing of 4,000 magazines, which contain evangelistic content for the freshmen. We did not have the resources, which amounted to about $4,000. So, we laid this request before the Lord in prayer. The next week we received very good news! The rector of the largest university in the city gave the needed resources for our freshman reception. We praise God because He gave us this clear opportunity to depend on Him. 5

Sunday, 14 October Guyana Joshua 1:17-18 Pray for more students, especially men, to join the Caribbean staff. Praise God for three who sensed the Spirit speaking to them in May concerning staff. Monday, 15 October Haiti Hebrews 4:1-7 Doors are opening for JESUS film teams to work in tent cities; many are committing their lives to Christ. Pray for continued favor and transformed lives. Tuesday, 16 October Haiti Hebrews 4:8-13 Pray for a team of six from the US as they minister the rest of this year among faculties, the campus ministry and displaced people living in tent cities. Wednesday, 17 October Honduras Hebrews 4:14-17 Pray about follow-up strategies for working with teachers and students in bi-lingual schools in the cities of San Pedro Sula, Siguatepeque and Tegucigalpa. Thursday, 18 October Mexico Hebrews 7:23-25 More than 50 churches have started through JESUS film showings. Pray for more JESUS film teams, enabling expansion in urban areas and others. Friday, 19 October Mexico Hebrews 7:26-28 Ask the Lord to do a special work to strengthen the groups of business leaders in Mexico City, Queretaro, San Juan del Rio and Cuernavaca. Saturday, 20 October Panama Hebrews 6:1-3 May Community Bible Church become a training center for church planting in Panama. Pray that 1,500 healthy churches will be planted by 2020. Sunday, 21 October Panama Hebrews 8:10 May we see student-led movements in at least our top 10 universities by 2020 (currently working on three campuses and starting a fourth, Universidad Latina). Monday, 22 October Paraguay Hebrews 8:11-12 Praise God for 22 leaders who are the fruit of three years of ministry. Pray as they are being trained to be sent and reproduce themselves by making disciples. Tuesday, 23 October Paraguay Hebrews 9:11-14 Call2all, Nov 6-9: Pray for this event taking the gospel to many of the unreached, in partnership with The Association of Pastors, YWAM and 1,000 pastors. 6

Thursday, 25 October Uruguay Hebrews 10:8-10 May the US STINT team ministering here since September, our student leaders, and many local leaders work together in unity and love for God s glory. Friday, 26 October Area Team Hebrews 10:11-18 Ask the Lord to raise up faithful ministry partners in all 26 countries where we have staff. May they faithfully apply their MPD training for 100% funding. Sat., 27 Oct. Student-led Movements Heb. 10:23-25 Lift up 50 campus staff from 18 countries (emergent leader initiative) meeting by Skype in coaching groups, implementing, and seeing movements grow. Sunday, 28 October High School Hebrews 10:19-22 Give thanks for staff and volunteers working with high school students in Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and Venezuela.
