TORAH, GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS LEVITICUS 17 SACRIFICES, PSALM 51 DAVID AND SACRIFICES LEVITICUS 18 LAWS OF BEING HOLY Say - Welcome to Sabbath School class. Let's bow our head and ask God for understanding as we continue our study of the book of Leviticus. Leviticus 17 - Sacrifices 1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel (not just to the ministry), and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying, 3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp, 4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering (sacrifice) unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed (put on one s account) unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people (Sacrificing somewhere other then the tent and were sacrificing unto demons; see vs. 7.): 5 To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD (Bring only to the priest. A Peace Offering was a sacrifice in offering praise to God and giving thanks to Him.). 6 And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD (God is not talking about killing an animal because they were hungry but talking about sacrifices.). 7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils (demons), after whom they have gone a whoring (Being unfaithful to God as in idolatry.). This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations. 8And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice (If you live in my land, it is holy, do as I say.), 9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the LORD; even that man shall be cut off from among his people. 10And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face (presence) against that soul (person) that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people (Many drink and eat the blood today and pay the penalty whether they know it or not because blood is where the diseases or viruses are and it is cannibalism. The Bible tells us 23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh. 24 Thou 1
shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it upon the earth as water Deuteronomy 12:23-24). 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement (to cover over) for your souls (self): for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul (person). 12Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul (person) of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood. (It is still the same today for God s people.) 13And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust (or loose dirt or bury it). 14For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off. 15And every soul (person) that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean. 16 But if he wash them not, nor bathe his flesh (if not willing to do the repentance); then he shall bear his iniquity (sin). Say In Psalm 51, David reveals the spiritual significance of the sacrifices and washings. David had a profound understanding of the sacrificial system. Try to understand the background behind this chapter for it is the spiritual concept of Leviticus 1-17 and what the sacrifices were all about and how to be holy and what God wants us to feel. David wrote this Psalm in 2 Samuel 12:7-23 after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. David is saying how do I stand before God. Psalm 51 1Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out (wipe away) my transgressions (sin). 2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse (make me pure) me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified (made righteous) when thou speakest, and be clear (blameless) when thou judgest (punish). 5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 2
6Behold, thou desirest truth (faithfulness to God) in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom (Godly wisdom) (Many would rather have the fun and commit sin but it is not wise to do so.). 7Purge (cleanse) me with hyssop, and I shall be clean (pure): wash me (purge the body from sin), and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken (crushed) may rejoice (Because when we are in our sins we are not happy.). 9Hide (conceal) thy face from my sins, and blot out (wipe away) all mine iniquities. 10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew (repair) a right spirit within me (It is a process God s people must go through to become holy.). 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me (If we do not change, God will take His holy spirit from us for our actions will judge us or accuse us.). 12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free (generous) spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee (Then we can be a light and show grace and forgiveness to others.). 14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness (blood thirsty), O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness (His laws). 15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. 16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering (Sacrifices are meaningless if ones heart is not in it; must be sincerely repentant.). 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise (This is the only way a sacrifice is accepted; when we do sacrifices with a contrite heart, all will prosper individually and collectively.). 18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness (what is right and a just sacrifice by God), with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar (When restored to God with righteousness in the heart and when God grants repentance, w should grant repentance to others.). 3
Leviticus 18 Say After the sacrificial system was put in place for the forgiveness of sins, the people were instructed on how to be holy and obedient to God. 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God. 3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances (Come out of the society and culture of Babylon; don t do what they do and it is the same today for God s people.). 4Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. 5 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. 6None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. 7The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness (Don t engage in incest.). 8The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness. 9The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. 10 The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. 11The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 12 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman (your aunt). 13Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman. 14 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. 15Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness (Your son is your flesh and blood.). 16 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. 4
17Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness (all are relatives). 18Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time. 19 Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. 20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife (go to bed with her), to defile thyself with her. 21And thou shalt not let any of thy seed (your children) pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD (Don t do human sacrifice of your children; they would make loud music to cover the screams of the children.). 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination (don t sleep with a male as with a woman). 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion (perversion or sexual sin). 24Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants (God decimated the population.). 26Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you (Even when a stranger does it; God does not allow it. God is not in the business of being politically correct; He is the Law.): 27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) 28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you (The word spue means the land will vomit you out.). 29For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls (person) that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. 30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God. (God is the one who sets the standards. Read Ezekiel 22 where God lists Jerusalem s sins.) MEMORY VERSE The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart, O god, thou wilt not despise. PSALM 51:17 BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR YOUTH AND TOTS 5
SACRIFICES LET OUR PRAYER BE AS DAVID S PRAYER TO GOD; WIPE AWAY ALL MY SINS ; CLEANSE ME, MAKE ME PURE AND FILL ME WITH THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD OR ALL HIS LAWS. WHEN WE SIN WE SIN AGAINST GOD AND DO EVIL IN HIS SIGHT ; GOD WANTS TRUTH IN THE INWARD PARTS OF HIS PEOPLE AND HE WANTS HIS WISDOM TO RULE OUR HEARTS AND MINDS. PURGE ME WITH HYSSOP, AND I SHALL BE CLEAN: WASH ME, AND I SHALL BE WHITER THAN SNOW; MAKE US TO HEAR JOY AND GLADNESS BECAUSE WHEN WE ARE IN OUR SINS WE ARE NOT HAPPY. CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, AND RENEW A RIGHT SPIRIT IN ME CAST ME NOT AWAY FROM THEY PRESENCE ; RESTORE UNTO ME THE JOY OF THY SALVATION ; WHY? SO THAT I CAN TEACH SINNERS THE WAYS OF GOD. THE SACRIFICES OF GOD ARE A BROKEN SPIRIT; A BROKEN AND A CONTRITE OR CRUSHED HEART FROM DISOBEYING GOD. THEN SHALL GOD BE PLEASED WITH THE SACRIFICES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHEN RESTORED TO GOD WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS IN OUR HEARTS. PSALM 51 ALL SACRIFICES REPRESENTED SELF; THE ANIMAL WAS PHYSICAL BUT THE INTENT OF THE SACRIFICE WAS SPIRITUAL; IT IS THE SAME TODAY, WHAT WE DO PHYSICALLY INDICATES WHAT WE INTEND SPIRITUALLY. WE MUST HAVE OUR HEART IN ALL WE DO FOR GOD THEN GOD WILL HEAR OUR PRAYER AND ACCEPT THEM; IF WE ARE NOT SINCERE, AS DAVID WAS, IN OUR PRAYERS TO GOD THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 6
WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT SACRIFICES IS THAT SOMETHING INNOCENT HAD TO DIE FOR OUR SINS; CHIRST WAS INNOCENT OF SIN AND HE WAS CALLED THE LAMB OF GOD; CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR PAID THE PENALTY FOR OUR SINS SO WE CAN HAVE LIFE IN HIM. HEBREWS 4:15 NOW CHIRST IS OUR HIGH PRIEST AND SITS ON THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD ON THE THRONE IN HEAVEN; HEBREWS 4:15 WHEN WE CONTINUE TO OBEY GOD AND FOLLOW HIM AND CONTINUE TO OVERCOME SIN, WE TOO WILL SIT BESIDE GOD AS WE REIGN WITH HIM IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD. REVELATION 5:10 MEMORY VERSE THE SACRIFICES OF GOD ARE A BROKEN SPIRIT: A BROKEN AND CONTRITE HEART, O GOD, THOU WILL NOT DESPISE. PSALM 51:17 7
