Words from Our Pastor Bob Mitchell Volume 5, Issue 11 November 2017 Important to Note: Trunk or Treat Daylight Saving Time Ends Operation Christmas Child Prayer Vigil Thanksgiving In a Sunday morning worship service a couple of weeks ago, we did something en rely new for us as a church. I asked you to take out your phones. Instead of asking you to silence them, turn them off, or do anything short of destroying them to make sure they didn t interrupt the service, I asked you instead to take a picture of the renovated front of the sanctuary, and then post that picture on your favorite social media website with the cap on: In a season of new things at Lincoln Church And indeed, we are in a season of new things. Having sent off some wonderful people to minister in other parts of God s kingdom-field, we are now in the process of seeking His direc on for our future. We are praying and doing our part behind the scenes in an effort to bring the new leaders that God would send to us for the next season of ministry and life together. In my reading-through-the -Bible-in-a-year program, I came this morning to Acts 13. I hadn t no ced before the significant shi that occurred between the 12th and 13th chapters of Acts. In the first 12 chapters, Peter and the other remaining Apostles are front and center. But that shi s in the 13th chapter. Now it s Barnabas and Paul that step into the limelight of prominence. It s as if God reminds us here that a new season, with new leaders are a natural part of God s divine ac vity. Along with those leaders who are elbow-deep in discussing our current and future leadership needs, I ask you to con nue in prayer for this process. Pray for a reversal of polarity: instead of sharing great and matured leaders with the wider Body of Christ, ask that the Spirit would now send to us great and mature spiritual leaders. In fact, this would be a perfect opportunity to ask you to put on your calendar a Prayer Vigil that we ve scheduled in mid- November. Collec vely, we will seek God s favor as a church, asking Him to deepen and strengthen us, so that we can be er minister to our world, In Jesus Name, Pastor Bob Pastor Matt Kirkland Blessings to Pastor Ma in his new ministry! You will be missed.

A Word From One of Our Supported Missionaries Chicago is both beau ful and brutal. In 2010 we moved here from Kyrgyzstan out of God s concern for this great city, to disciple among the many young adults who grow up in Chicago or come here for work or educa on. On top of that, I now lead our integrated Chicago Navigator ministry, which is a thriving community striving together side-by-side for the faith of the Gospel in the mosaic of Chicagoland and to the ends of the earth. We disciple and equip laborers of Christ in these contexts: colleges and universi es, the workplace, immigrants and refugees, prepara on for oversees missions, suburban neighborhoods, and the urban hood. Some of our most promising staff and volunteers are ex-offenders. God has entrusted to us amazing teammates, young and old, men and women, of La no, Asian, and African-American ethnicity. That s the kind of team needed to share the Good News here in Chicago. Linda and I have four daughters, from (L to R): Emily, Sierra, Linda, Jay, Autumn, and Eva age 17 to 26, so we can relate to other parents who are walking alongside their grown children as they become young adults, striving together for the faith of the Gospel. I won t tell you it s been easy here, for any of us, either on the family side or the Navigator mission side. But I can tes fy that God is not far but very near, and is most definitely at work. Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel Philippians 1:27 (NIV) Jay & Linda Neuharth The Monthly Newsle er of Lincoln Presbyterian Church 900 Douglas Road, Stockton CA 95207 Website: www.lincolnpres.org 209.477.2783 Email: office@lincolnpres.org FAX: 866.783.4037 Dr. Bob Mitchell, Pastor Fred Jantz, Senior Execu ve Pastor Dr. Al Van Selow, Administra ve Pastor Tom BetGeorge, Director of Music/Worship Leader Kristen Lambdin, Director of Children s Ministries John French, Special Projects Administrator Cheryl Pannabecker, Office Manager Page 2

Children s Ministries - Kristen Lambdin Trunk or Treat is just around the corner! We are so excited for another great year! Pray with us for good weather, volunteers, enough trunks and candy, and that kids and families have a great me hanging out with us! I cannot believe we are already entering into the holiday season! Every year we buy and package up Shoeboxes for kids in need around the world with an organiza on called Opera on Christmas Child. We will have a packing party in AWANA on November 8th so we will need to collect all items by then. All supplies can be delivered to LPC office. Any small toys, school items, books, hard candy etc. would be great supply fillers for the boxes. If you are not able to go out and buy things to fill the boxes we will also be collec ng money as a $9.00 dona on is required to cover the cost of shipping for each box. It is a great way to encourage kids to give back during the holiday season. If you have any ques ons or would like to be more involved in our children s programs don t hesitate to contact me at: Kristen@lincolnpres.org, (209) 390-1398, or stop by my office I love to have visitors! Although they are small, the scholarships help students with transporta on costs, books, etc. The students look forward to receiving these funds and are very apprecia ve. Security Reminder Praying for the peace and prosperity of Stockton should be a part of every believer s daily prayer me. Otherwise, how will the city ever change for the good? Unfortunately, churches are considered easy targets for vandalism, property damage, and the. A big THANK YOU to our volunteers who patrol the LPC parking lot & church grounds during regular church services. In addi on to prayer, there are some prac cal things you can do to avoid becoming the vic m of property the, especially when it comes to having your vehicle broken into: 2018 Flower Chart 1.
