Meet Hannah Heller! Member Profile What brought you to Ner Tamid? We moved to Baltimore in 1996. We heard about Ner Tamid through various friends who were already living here. My husband, Craig Heller, Of Blessed Memory, died in 2002. Some of you may have fond memories of the time he spent at Ner Tamid. We will always remember the kindness of so many in both our shul community and in the Baltimore Jewish community during Craig's illness and after his death. We went to different shuls the first few years here. We officially joined Ner Tamid in 2000. What is your religious background? My religious background is Modern Orthodox Where are you from originally? Hard question to answer. My late father, Rabbi Alfred Fruchter, was a shul rabbi and in those days shul rabbis often had to move to various shuls. Growing up, I lived in 7 different cities. The last place we lived in and where my parents are buried, is Troy, NY. What do you do for a living? I work several different jobs. One of the main things I do is work as a Standardized Patient Educator and Teaching Associate for Johns Hopkins University. This involves role playing, being a practice patient and giving medical and nursing students feedback on physical exam procedures and interpersonal skills. Other jobs I do are freelance writing and editing, substitute teaching, Bnei Mitzvah tutoring, academic tutoring, child care, petsitting and administrative work. If it's an honest way to make a living and I am able to do it, I'm your official Jill of All Trades! Anything unusual about yourself? Get to know me - I'm an interesting person and always looking to make new friends. I have a hobby that may be somewhat outdated in today's orthodox communities. I crochet kippot. Loads of colors, designs, personalized, with Hebrew or English letters, whatever one's preference may be. Some of the Ner Tamid community have ordered kippot from me and proudly wear them. Hoping to bring back this fashion of kippot to the popularity it had before. Whenever you see my son, Elliot Heller or my son-in-law, Rob Golder, they are usually wearing one of my crocheted kippah creations.
