September 30, 2018 10:30 am Enter with a spirit of preparation as we gather ourselves for worship Prelude: Prelude Mendelssohn Announcements Anthem: There Is a Balm in Gilead Arr. by Zabriskie -Body- Unison Prayer: Chalice Hymnal No. 508 *Hymn: O Christ, the Healer No. 503 First Reading: Isaiah 58:6-9 6 Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. Reflection Tara Orley, RN, Faith Community Nurse Coordinator 2
Children s Moment -Mind- Prayer (Based on Psalm 104) ONE: We have gathered in the presence of the One who breathes life into all of Creation. ALL: We sing God s praises, breathing in God s glory. ONE: All are welcome in the presence of the Most High. ALL: We come, seeking the goodness in the hands of God. ONE: We gather as God s beloved people, leaving no one outside. ALL: Together we reflect the fullness of God s love; together we bring God s love into the world. ONE: Let us remember the God whose breath gives us life. *Hymn: Healer of Our Ev ry Ill No. 506 Second Reading: Jonah 2:1-7 1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 2 He said: In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. 3 You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. 4 I said, I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 3
6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit. 7 When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. Reflection Invitation to Giving Jonathan J. Bower Musician/Writer/Mental Health Employee Offertory: there Is a Balm in Gilead arr. Hailstork *Doxology: (tune) No. 47 Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below, Praise God above, ye heavenly host, Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost. Amen Dedication of Gifts Prayers of the People Silent Prayer Pastoral Prayer -Spirit- The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. 4
*Hymn: Strong, Gentle Children No. 511 Third Reading: John 14:25-31 5 All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. 28 You heard me say, I am going away and I am coming back to you. If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. Come now; let us leave. Reflection *Benediction Rev.
