MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES 2011 AN ORDER OF VESPERS Opening Prayer First Hymn: (See hymn list for this week) PASTOR CONGR. PASTOR CONGR. O Lord, open Thou my lips. And my mouth shall show forth Thy praise. Make haste, O God, to deliver me. Make haste to help me, O Lord. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Hallelujah! WELCOME St. John s Ev. Lutheran Clarkston, WA Wednesday Worship Service at 7:00 p.m. Peace Lutheran Orofino, ID Thursday Worship Service at 7:00 p.m. The Lenten Theme: "PROFILES OF THE PASSION" Pastor Dave Naumann (509) 295-6109 Organists: Lorraine Busse, Donna Lowary, Sue Martin CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION P: Beloved of God: Let us draw near with a true heart, and confess our sins to God our Father, asking Him, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to grant us forgiveness. C: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer: we confess that we are sinful by nature, and have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions. We have not loved You above all things. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. Have mercy on us, and, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us our sins. P: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given His only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. THE PSALMODY Page 28 in the Worship Supplement Hymnal SCRIPTURE LESSONS: 1st Lesson READING OF THE PASSION HISTORY OF CHRIST

Hymn of praise: 173 v. 1 (Tune of The Doxology ) Lord Jesus, We Give Thanks to Thee That Thou hast died to set us free; Made righteous throu' Thy precious blood, We now are reconciled to God. Amen 2nd Lesson READING OF THE PASSION HISTORY OF CHRIST (Cont.) CONFESSION OF FAITH: (from the Formula of Concord on Justification by Faith) We unanimously believe, teach, and confess the following about the righteousness of faith before God. A poor sinful person is justified before God, that is, absolved and declared free and exempt from all his sins and from the sentence of welldeserved condemnation, and is adopted into sonship and inheritance of eternal life, without any merit or worth of his own. This happens without any preceding, present, or subsequent works, out of pure grace, because of the sole merit, complete obedience, bitter suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Christ alone. His obedience is credited to us for righteousness. These treasures are brought to us by the Holy Spirit in the promise of the holy Gospel. Faith alone is the only means through which we lay hold on, accept, apply, and take them for ourselves. This faith is God s gift, by which we truly learn to know Christ, our Redeemer, in the Word of the Gospel and trust in Him. We trust that for the sake of His obedience alone we have the forgiveness of sins by grace, are regarded as godly and righteous by God the Father, and are eternally saved. Herod Profile of Religious Trifling

Fifth Midweek Lenten Service April 6 & 7 Hymns: 155, 148, 723, 655 John 19:11-12 Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin." 12 From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar's friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar." "Pontius Pilate Profile of Lost Opportunity" Maundy Thursday Communion Service 7:00 pm April 21 At Peace Lutheran Church in Orofino 1 Corinthians 11:26-29 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
