First Baptist Church 40 Day Consecration February 13- March 24, 2013 The words consecrate, sanctify, and holy have very similar meanings. It is defined as declaring something or someone sacred for God s use. During the church s 40 day consecration we will make every effort to set ourselves apart to be sacred to the Lord, all for His glory. This year s church theme is Doing Ministry as a TEAM. Therefore, the 40 day consecration will offer times of prayer, fasting, scripture reading, sharing our testimonies and more. Ephesians 4:12: For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ. In the Bible, fasting is done for both public and private reasons. At First Baptist Church, we proclaim a 40 day fast every year during the Lenten season. The Lenten season begins on Ash (February 13) and ends on Palm (March 24). Some facts about our fast: 1. We will fast from red meat, fried foods, and sweets for the entire 40 day period. (Bread is optional). Sweets are defined as candy, desserts, etc. You can eat at any point during the day, but you must abstain from the items listed above. 2. s are grace days where we do not fast during the 40 day period. 3. Each day there are scriptures to read along with a weekly prayer target. 4. Each week there are additional items that we will abstain from beyond fasting. These things help us to draw even closer to God and our families. 5. The period of time we are fasting should be a time of SERIOUS personal reflection, where we carefully examine ourselves to know where God needs to further strengthen and develop our relationship with Christ. 6. During the times that you are fasting, focus on the Lord strengthening you. Praying and reading God s Word are critical during the fasting period. 7. Please follow your Doctor s orders. If you must eat to take your medication, PLEASE DO SO. Areas of during the 40 Day Consecration 2 Samuel 5:17-20 in our thinking: Daily scripture reading Become more conscious of the areas of our lives where we sin in order that we may be transformed to God like thinking/behavior (2 Chronicles 7:14)

in our health/bodies: Proper eating habits (restricted diet) Drink as much water as possible during the entire 40 Day consecration No sexual perversion during consecration (fornication, adultery, lasciviousness, etc.) in our faith/ relationship with God: Specific prayer targets that will build your faith and improve your walk with God. During the bible studies (during the Lenten Season) there will be an extended time of prayer, both individual and corporate. The bible readings during the 40 day period: For the 40 day period we are going to go through the entire Bible! That s right, each day will focus on a particular theme or person that will help you to better understand the Bible. At the end of the 40 days, you will have read key verses, chapters, and lessons to help you have a better understanding of God s Word. Church Prayer Targets during Consecration: 1. For all of our members to work hard in meeting the vision, mission, and goals of 2013. 2. For our leadership: that each leader lead by example and demonstrate integrity. 3. For our finances. That we will (by faith) reach our financial goals for the year. 4. We are BOLD witnesses for the Lord outside of the church. 5. There is genuine love and support for one another in the church. No division, schisms, cliques, factions or other mess that does not need to be at First Baptist (or any other church). 6. For our worship services to strengthen. That we all come to church with the same goal in mind; to lift up the name of Jesus and not be consumed with selfish motives. 7. For breakthroughs in our church; in our worship, in our spiritual growth, in our fellowship and areas of healing. 8. For the flood to be seen during the 40 day consecration. God would add to our church MORE during these 40 days. 9. For increased membership involvement. No bench warmers, but TEAM Members. That each member is actively seeking to identify a place to serve within our church. Many hands make light work.
