First Baptist Church 40 Day Consecration February 13- March 24, 2013 The words consecrate, sanctify, and holy have very similar meanings. It is defined as declaring something or someone sacred for God s use. During the church s 40 day consecration we will make every effort to set ourselves apart to be sacred to the Lord, all for His glory. This year s church theme is Doing Ministry as a TEAM. Therefore, the 40 day consecration will offer times of prayer, fasting, scripture reading, sharing our testimonies and more. Ephesians 4:12: For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ. In the Bible, fasting is done for both public and private reasons. At First Baptist Church, we proclaim a 40 day fast every year during the Lenten season. The Lenten season begins on Ash (February 13) and ends on Palm (March 24). Some facts about our fast: 1. We will fast from red meat, fried foods, and sweets for the entire 40 day period. (Bread is optional). Sweets are defined as candy, desserts, etc. You can eat at any point during the day, but you must abstain from the items listed above. 2. s are grace days where we do not fast during the 40 day period. 3. Each day there are scriptures to read along with a weekly prayer target. 4. Each week there are additional items that we will abstain from beyond fasting. These things help us to draw even closer to God and our families. 5. The period of time we are fasting should be a time of SERIOUS personal reflection, where we carefully examine ourselves to know where God needs to further strengthen and develop our relationship with Christ. 6. During the times that you are fasting, focus on the Lord strengthening you. Praying and reading God s Word are critical during the fasting period. 7. Please follow your Doctor s orders. If you must eat to take your medication, PLEASE DO SO.
