September 2015 The Bellringer Zion/Clarion Family, Greetings in the name of Jesus the Christ, Have you thought about the number of churches Bureau County? Some would say there are dozens of churches in our county, and it is great that many of them come together at the Bureau County Fair to worship together on Sunday August 30 at 10:00am. It is wonderful to set aside our differences and focus on what unites us, Jesus the Christ: his atoning sacrifice to free us from our sins, and his resurrection that gives us certainty of eternal life. How many churches come together for this event? I try to be rather specific in how I use the words church and congregation. They are vastly different things! There are MANY Christian congregations in Bureau County. But I believe there is only ONE CHURCH in Bureau County, the Church of Jesus Christ. This One Church has many congregations that come together in Christian unity. We as One Church have the common purpose to share the Good News of Jesus the Christ with the world. Many of us do the world far away part pretty well as we support missions around the globe. But as I converse with area pastors we all seem to have a more difficult time closer to home. Historically we just have not had as much practice telling our friends and neighbors about Jesus likely because most of our friends and neighbors in the past were involved in a congregation and already knew about the gift of forgiveness and salvation. But our world has changed. There are many around us who do NOT know and trust and follow Jesus in a personal way. We as many congregations from all over the county continue to ponder our role as One Church through our participation in the GO! Project of Bureau County. I ask you to continue to pray for our congregation, and every congregation in our county, as we see ways to reach beyond our walls to the lost so they too might receive what Jesus has to offer, and so be included in the One Church, the Body of Christ. Heaven has room for many more. Let us continue to seek God s guidance as we seek to keep growing the Kingdom. It comes from one of lessons this fall as we see how Joseph forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery. The story comes from Genesis 37, 39-50. Our memory verse comes from Ephesians 4:32 Be kind forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you MAF - Mission Aviation Fellowship www.maf.org Bible students in far-away lands such as Sierra Leone are trained by MAF staff to use specially built software, such as MAF s library app, Estante on tablets.
