ORDER OF WORSHIP OCTOBER 7, 2018 Prelude (8:30 a.m.) These Are the Holy Ten Commands J.S. Bach Judy Kabodian, organ Prelude (10:30 a.m.) "Jesus Loves Me/Kum Ba Ya/Simple Gifts" Coppertone Ringers, directed by Elizabeth Reed Welcome to The Peoples Church! Rev. Case Van Kempen Worship is both personal and communal, formal and informal, intimate and casual. Here at The Peoples Church, we recognize that people come to worship God in both joy and pain, faith and doubt, with laughter and with tears. Our worship tries to reflect a desire both for meditation and celebration. Please know you are invited to participate in any and all ways you feel led. Our songs, prayers, words and actions are the works of imperfect people trying to worship a perfect God. Call to Worship (from Psalm 19) Leader: The heavens are telling the glory of God. People: May our worship reflect God s glory. Leader: The firmament proclaims God s handiwork. People: May we see each other as the handiwork of God. Leader: Let our prayer and praise, our singing and proclamation project the love of God. People: We commune with Christians around the world, with Christians throughout time. Leader: With Christians across geography and across time, let us worship! Gathering Hymn Praise the Lord! God's Glories Show No. 33 Procession of the Light of Christ Morgan Manolakoudis and Blake Burke, Acolytes Call to Confession (from John 17) Leader: When Jesus was with his disciples at the Last Supper, he prayed for them and for us, asking God that all who believed in him through the disciples message might be one. Let us confess our continuing need for God s grace in achieving this unity.

Prayer of Confession Merciful God, although you made all people in your image, we confess that we live with deep divisions. Although you sent Jesus to be Savior of the world, we confess that we often treat him as our own tribal god. Although you are One and the Body of Christ is One, we fail to display that unity in our worship, our mission, and our fellowship. Forgive our pride and failure of will, heal our souls, and renew our vision, for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Leader: Jesus knows our every weakness and loves us still. Friends, believe the good news of the gospel. People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Congregational Response Do Not Be Afraid" (chorus only) No. 76 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Chosen and beloved, you are my own. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptattion, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
