The Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East: Pray for the Diocese of Iran at present, without a bishop, and for all followers of Christ in that predominately Muslim country. Our Diocese: Pray for Bishop Michael and his wife Julia, and that each of us, both clergy and laity, will take on board the bishop s Synod charge; Our identity as Christians today is exactly what it was for Andrew and Peter, James and John, Matthew and Thomas and all the rest and ever since disciples first. We pray for St. Christopher s Cathedral in Central Manama with a church in Awali, Bahrain; for The Very Rev d Christopher Butt and the Rev d Stephen Thanapaul, and for their congregations from such diverse communities. Weddings: www.churchweddingspaphos.com 1

In our own Parish of Paphos: We give thanks for the safe return of our Parish Priest Andrew, Associate Priest Anthony and our two Lay Representatives Jacquie and Sarah from Synod and our three observers; and for the raising of our Parish identity once more to the synod in general. Please remember in your prayers the families and friends of Michael Emmett whose funeral took place last Thursday and Ian Clark whose funeral takes place on Monday. For further prayers during the week see our Diocesan Prayer Guide and the Anglican Communion website www.anglicancommunion.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT S GOING ON TODAY & THIS WEEK Sunday 19th February 8.15am 9.30am 11.00am 6.00pm Wednesday 22nd February 9.00am 10.00am 11.15am Friday 24th February 2.00pm Sunday 26th February 8.15am 9.30am 11.00am Holy Eucharist - St. Luke s Holy Eucharist - St. Stephen s Pastoral Care Team Meeting - St. Stephen s Clinic Visitors Team Meeting - St. Stephen s Craft and Coffee - St. Stephen s Holy Eucharist - St. Luke s Morning Worship - St. Stephen s 6.00pm Sung Eucharist - Ayia Kyriaki ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Church Council have agreed to display a monthly running total showing income against outgoings provided by the Hon. This 2

will add approximately 25% to any donations you make, as the Church can reclaim the basic rate of tax from your donations. If you are or intend to donate via the Pledge Giving Scheme, you can complete a one-off Gift Aid declaration. To make a Gift Aid declaration you will need to pay UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in any tax year greater than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your Gift Aid donations in that year, or you will be responsible for any difference. Income tax includes tax credits on UK dividend income. Boosting the Church income in this way will be a very welcome additional contribution to finances. GENERAL NOTICES Diocesan Synod: Thank you for your support and prayers for Synod and for the Parish representatives and observers who attended. It was a very worthwhile gathering with particular focus on the theme of Intentional Discipleship which is a current theme in the Diocese. It was especially good to get to know folk from the Gulf parishes and to learn something of their very different situations. The Diocesan video, which featured our choir was shown to acclaim. Hopefully by the end of next week you will be able to find the video on the parish website and have a laugh by watching yours truly tying himself up in knots trying to make a palm cross. Yes, I really did master the art, in a later session, but Synod was not convinced! Reverend Andrew. Please Note: Ecumenical Bible Study has been cancelled until further notice. Wedding Vergers: We need volunteers to be wedding vergers before the wedding season begins in earnest. If you feel you can help, please speak to one of the clergy. Many thanks. Canon Anthony. Café Direct: This month s round of sales at Ayia Kyriaki and St. Stephen s resulted in 9 items being sold with a profit to the Church of 8.66. Annette and I will be in England on the 5th March so I will do a sale on the 26th February and then again on the 2nd April. Since my spinal surgery and confirmation that I now need a 2nd hip replacement I find myself unable to continue with these sales. The stock that I have left I will sell at the cost price and, of course, this will end any profit to the Church. Whilst at the Synod I explained this situation to Archdeacon John Holdsworth and he is going to look for someone on the island to take over fom me, especially as sales in the east of the island are extensive. I still have the contacts to get the best wholesale price and delivery to Cyprus is not a problem, so if anyone here wishes to take over from me please let me know. Colin Evans. NOTICES FOR TODAY, THIS WEEK & NEXT SUNDAY Recycled Cards: Sue and Lou will next be selling their recycled cards on Sunday 19th February after the 8.15am service at Ayia Kyriaki and after the 11.00am service at St. Stephen s. Sue & Lou make some wonderful cards so do come and help to support local charities. ADVANCE NOTICES Women s World Day of Prayer: This will take place on Friday 3rd March 2017, commencing 3pm at St. Stephen s Church, Tala. All Christian Churches in Paphos have been contacted and invited to take part. If anyone would like to volunteer to read at this service please contact Chris Hoskins as soon as possible by e-mail chrishoskins2016@gmail.com or call 97 753973. The service has been prepared by Christian women of the Philippines and it is hoped that some Filipino ladies will take part. Please encourage parishioners and visitors, including gentlemen to attend. Lent Courses: Three Lent discussion courses will run in the parish. The course at St. Luke s will run on Saturday mornings beginning on 3

Saturday 4th March - 11.00am - 12.00pm in the Church. In Paphos, a Tuesday morning course will be held at the Chaplaincy House beginning on Tuesday 7th March - 11.00am - 12.00pm and a Friday morning course will be held at Canon Anthony s house beginning on Friday 10th March - 11.00am - 12.00pm. Soup and rolls will be served at the conclusion of each session. Canon Anthony will lead a course entitled Following the Call and Reverend Andrew s course will be entitled The Joy of the Gospel - a study course in sharing the Faith. More details next week. Please add your name to the sign-up sheets. Spring Fayre: The Craft Group are holding a Spring Fayre on Saturday 25th March 10.00am - 1.00pm at St. Stephen s to help towards Church funds. They are planning to have a Book stall and a Bric-a-Brac stall and would welcome any books and small bric-a-brac items. Other Stalls they are considering are Craft Stall, Craft Creations, Cards, Cakes and Jams and Preserves. Items for sale required, plus jam jars with metal lids needed for the making of jam and preserves. They also need volunteers to help man the stalls, making coffee and teas on the day and serving refreshments. If you have an idea for a stall or would like to help please contact Mary on 99 863194. Date for your Diary: Saturday April 1st at St. Paul s Cathedral, Nicosia. Handel s MESSIAH FROM SCRATCH (Part Three) from 5pm. Conducted by Fr. Anthony with choristers from around the diocese.
