Ordination of Elders Table of Lessons How Beautiful Isaiah 52:7-10 Elder Jerry Murray 7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! 8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. 9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. 10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Warning to the Watchman Ezekiel. 33:1-9 Elder Coleman Elliott. 1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: 3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; 4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. 6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. 7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. 8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. The Commission Matthew 28:16-20 Elder Roy Campbell 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. The Declaration Bishop Frederick E. Clarida, Sr.: Sisters and Brethren, these are they whom we purpose, God willing, this day to ordain Elders: For after due examination, we find not the contrary, but that they are lawfully called to this function and ministry; and that they are persons meet for the same. But, if there be any of you knoweth of any impediment or crime in any of them, for which they ought not be received into this Holy Ministry, let him come forth in the name of God and show what the crime or impediment is. 4

The Collect Elder Willie Hunter, Jr.: Almighty God, giver of all good things, Who by the Holy Spirit has appointed Divers orders in Ministers in Thy Church, mercifully behold these Thy servants now called to the office of elders, and replenish them with the innocency of life, that both by word and good example they may faithfully serve Thee in this office to the Glory of Thy name and the edification of Thy Church, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, world without end. The Epistle Elder Robert McArthur: Unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore He saith, when He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that He ascend, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended in the same, also that ascended up far above all Heavens that He might fill all things.) Elder Jerry Murray: And He also gave some Apostles, and some Prophets, and some Evangelist, and some Pastors, and Teachers for the perfecting of the Saints, for the work of the Ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ; till we all come in the unity of the Faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Elder Coleman Elliott: Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth in some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But, he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calleth his own sheep by name and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him, for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spake Jesus unto them, but they understood not what things they were which He spake unto them. Elder Roy Campbell: Then said Jesus unto them again, verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before Me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door, By me if any man enter in, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture. Elder Willie Hunter, Jr.: The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy; I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd; the Good Shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Bishop Frederick E. Clarida, Sr.: But he that is a hireling and not the Shepherd, whose own sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth because he is a hireling and careth not for the sheep. I am the Good Shepherd and know My sheep, and I am known of mine. As the Father knowth Me, even so I know the Father; and lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one Shepherd. The Inquiry Bishop Reginald S. Hinton, Sr: You have heard sisters and brethren, as well in your private examinations and in the exhortation which was just made to you, and in the writing of the Apostles, of what dignity and of how great importance this office is, where unto ye are now called. And now again, we exhort you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that ye have in remembrance into how high a dignity and to how weighty an office ye are called; that is to say, to be messengers, watchmen, and stewards of the Lord; to teach and to 5

admonish, to feed and to provide for the Lord s family; to seek for Christ s sheep that are dispersed abroad, and for His children who are in the midst of the evil world, that they may be saved through Christ forever. We have good hope that you have weighed and pondered these things with yourself long before this time; and that you have clearly determined by God s grace to give yourselves to this office, whereby it has pleased God to call you, so that as much as lieth in you, you will apply yourselves wholly to this one thing, and draw all cares and studies this way; and that you will continually pray to God the Father, by the meditation of our only Savior Jesus Christ, for the Heavenly assistance of the Holy Ghost; that by daily reading and weighing of the scriptures, ye may wax riper and stronger in your Ministry; and that ye may so endeavor yourselves from time to time, to sanctify the lives of you and yours, and to fashion them after the rule and doctrine of Christ, that ye may be wholesome and godly examples and patterns for the people to follow. And now that this present congregation of Christ has assembled may also understand your minds and wills in these things; and that this your promise may the more move you to do your duties. You shall answer plainly to these things which we, in the name of God and His Church shall demand to you, touching the same. Bishop Reginald S. Hinton, Sr.: Do you think in your heart that you are truly called according to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the order of elder? Candidates: I do so believe. Bishop Frederick E. Clarida, Sr.: Are you persuaded that the Holy Scriptures contain sufficiently all doctrines required of necessity for eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ? Are you determined out of the said scriptures to instruct the people committed to your charge, and to teach nothing, as required of necessity to salvation, but that which ye shall be persuaded may be concluded and proved by the scripture? Candidates: I am so persuaded, and have so determined by God s grace. Elder Robert McArthur: Will you then give your faithful diligence always to minister the doctrine and sacraments and discipline of Christ as the Lord hath commanded? Candidates: I will do so, by the help of the Lord. Elder Jerry Murray: Will you be ready with all faithful diligence always to banish and drive away all erroneous and strange doctrines contrary to God s Word; and to use both public and private monitions and exhortations, as well as the sick, as to the whole, within your charge as need shall require and occasion shall be given? Candidates: I will, the Lord being my helper. Elder Coleman Elliott: Will you be diligent in prayer and in reading the Holy Scriptures, and in such studies as help to bring the knowledge of the same, laying aside the study of the world and of the flesh? Candidates: I will endeavor to do so; the Lord being my helper. Elder Roy Campbell: Will you be diligent to frame and fashion yourselves and your families according to the doctrine of Christ; and to make both yourselves and them, as much as in you lieth, wholesome examples and patterns to the flock of Christ? Candidates: I shall apply myself thereto, the Lord being my helper. Elder Willie Hunter, Jr.: Will you maintain and set forth, as much as lieth in you, sweetness, peace and 6

love among all Christian people and especially among them that are, or shall be committed to your charge? Candidates: I will do so, the Lord being my helper. Elder Robert McArthur: Will you reverently obey your chief ministers unto whom is committed the charge and government over you, submitting yourselves to their Godly judgments? Candidates: I will do so, the Lord being my helper. Bishop Reginald E. Hinton, Sr: Almighty God, who hath given you this will to do all these things, grant also unto you strength and power to perform the same; that He may accomplish His work which He hath begun, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
