Page 3 Sixth Sunday of Easter - May 21, 2017 A Message from Fr. Bob Dear Parishioners and Friends, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2017 Gree ngs, love and best regards to you all! I hope and pray that everyone had a blessed and frui ul week. It is always great to see your smiling faces at the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses. The month of May is always a wonderful me of the year. People in the Midwest and the East Coast enjoy this spring me, full of new life a er the winter season. It is a me for gradua ons. Proud and excited parents flock to grade schools, high schools and universi es to witness gradua on ceremonies for their children, rela ves and friends. This past Wednesday, we had our very own Class of 2017 gradua on ceremony for the eighth grade students at St. John Bosco. This Class of 2017 has been excep onally unique and special. When I was appointed Pastor four years ago, these children were in fourth grade. For the last four years, I have seen them grow in both stature and wisdom. They have many talents. In short, they have a bright future. Please join me in congratula ng them for their hard work and success, and wishing them well as they begin high school. As in past years, students have been accepted to Seton Catholic High School, Xavier and Brophy. Many thanks to the parents who con nue the tradi on of providing Catholic Educa on for their children. Thanks to the St. John Bosco Principal, Mrs. Anita Pe, faculty and staff for their dedica on and commitment to academic excellence and our cherished Catholic values. This weekend, we have two main events happening: A er each Mass, Pastoral and Finance Council members, together with St. Benedict Staff, will be serving cookies and drinks as a thank you for your par cipa on in the CDA 2017. Special thanks to the CDA 2017 Co-chairs, Mike and Lisa Low and their beloved children, Ma hew and Abbie. Our goal to raise $85,000 was far exceeded with more than $120,000 raised. This is a reason for us to celebrate! During the 5pm Mass on Sunday, we shall honor high school and college students who are part of the gradua ng Class of 2017. A recep on will follow a er Mass. Please keep these students in your prayers as they begin a new chapter in their lives. Allow me to wish you all a blessed and frui ul week. I look forward to seeing you next weekend as we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. ~ Fr. Bob

Summer me Giving As you are probably aware, church a endance during the summer months tends to drop off as vaca ons and weekend spor ng events o en conflict. On the other hand, the services we provide within the parish and for the larger community con nue year round, as do their associated expenses. Your consistent financial support of our parish is vital to achieving our stewardship mission. The easiest way to be sure that your gi of treasure reaches us, even when you can t be here, is through enrollment in our electronic offertory program: Faith Direct. CALL goes in-depth into such subjects as Theology of the Body, authen c femininity and masculinity, rela onships, marriage, human sexuality, bioethics and college prep. In-depth seminars are offered 4 mes a year for 3 high school years, as well as a retreat and service component. At the end of this program teens earn a cer ficate of comple on in a leadership program that they can list on their college and scholarship applica ons. Page 5 Sixth Sunday of Easter - May 21, 2017 Faith Forma on Prayer for the End of School Year O God of all beginnings and endings, we praise and thank you for the gi of this school year. It has been a me filled with grace and blessings, with challenges and opportuni es, joys and sorrows. The days have passed quickly, O Lord. The weeks, the months, the seasons, the holidays and holy days, the exams, vaca ons, breaks, and assemblies, all have come forth from your hand. While we trust that your purposes have always been at work each day, some mes it has seemed difficult to understand and appreciate just what you have been up to in our school. Give us the rest and refreshment we need this summer. Let our efforts of this past year bear fruit. Bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion, and bless us, according to your will, with the fulfillment of our summer hopes and dreams. Watch over us in the weeks of rest ahead, and guide each day as you have done this past year. Help us return to school with a new spirit and a new energy. May we con nue to grow in age, wisdom, knowledge and grace all the days of our lives. Amen. Author Unknown. In the waters of Bap sm, we are incorporated into the Life, Death, and Resurrec on of Jesus Christ. One with him, our sins are forgiven and we become God s own, united in the Church and empowered to share in her mission. The blessed water ritually cleanses the person, provides access to Christ s renewed life, and gives entrance into the Body of Christ, the Church. From the waters of Bap sm, one receives the Holy Spirit, is washed clean from sin, and is renewed in the life and mission of Christ, which the Church promises to serve. Bap sm changes us by giving us a new mission, a new calling, and a new body because of the work of Christ s Spirit in the font. The anoin ng that goes along with the Bap sm is also ed to Christ s life. St. Augus ne remarked that the anoin ng with the Cross, a symbol of Christ s Death and Life, is ed to the person and mission of Christ. (The word Christ is Greek for anointed one.) To be anointed, therefore, is to be marked a Chris an, a person dedicated and joined to the person and mission of Christ. These bap smal waters are some mes referred to as waters of regenera on. The waters not only drown our old selves but regenerate, or recreate, us into disciples of Christ. If Bap sm immerses us into Christ s person and mission, the rest of life is poten ally a response to that bap smal call. Each day we are to discern how we might live as Christ. Bap sm changes not only how we see the world but how we live according to Christ s mission. Source: Kristopher W. Seaman 2017 Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgy Training Publica on
