It is flat plains along the Hungarian border in the north, and low mountains and highlands near the Adriatic coastline and islands. It declared itself independent of Yugoslavia in 1991. Years of ethnic conflict followed within and among the parts of the old Yugoslavia, and resulted in the 1992-1995 war in which NATO, including the USA, became involved. They are still removing landmines from that time. Their current President, the fourth since independence, is Kolinda Grabar- Kitavoric, who is their first female president. Acid rain from air pollution by metallurgical production sites is damaging forests, and they are struggling with the refugee crisis. Their woods are home to wolves, lynx, bear, wild boar, elk, deer, etc.; and Atlantic and grey dolphins live off the shore in the Adriatic Sea. The goal for setting up independent countries was to relieve the ethnic conflict. The Croatian population is 95.6% of Croat origin, and over 86% are Catholic. The Presbyterian Mission Agency donates to Evangelical Theological Seminary in Osijek, Croatia, the largest Protestant school in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union that offers a fully accredited Masters of Divinity. LOST AND FOUND On September 19, we will be cleaning out the accumulated lost and found items now in a basket on the counter in the work room (#110.) If you lost small items over the past year, you may check there. Thank you for your help with decluttering.
