V o l u m e 1, I s s u e P a g e 3 Church Council 016 Submitted by Chris Genz 1. Pastor - Valli Blair. Finance Rep Ricki Cunningham 3. Finance Rep Susan Wise 4. Trustee Rep Keith Pawelek 5. Trustee Rep Blaine Wise 6. SPR Rep Steve Perkins 7. SPR Rep Ann Harrell I would not be over exaggerating to say 016 has been a learning process for the Church Council. This was the first full calendar year using the Healthy Church Initiative process (a single board system). The Church Council is the governing board for our church. It sets policy and the direction for FUMCK. But we also have to put on our managing hats when we do the business of the Staff Parish Relation business or make finance and Trustee decision. That part of the meeting is led by that representative on the Council and not the Council chairperson. The Council takes the place of four or five committees that we had before. The Council tries to make decisions and changes more transparent to the congregation. The Single Board system makes changes easier and quicker by not going through the long chain of command of numerous committees. All these new ideas are still a work in progress. I can also easily say that this has been a year of transition for the Council and our church. We were blessed to have Pastor Jim for the first six month of 016. Jim was an idea man and with the help of several people he/we put the HCI process in motion. Jim changed the multi-committee paradigm. We are using a new way of thinking and I thank him for that. Now in walks Pastor Valli. She is a more high church, goes by the Book of Discipline, Elder versus a Deacon type of pastor. But, and this is huge, Pastor Valli is a more of a roll up her sleeve and gets the job done type pastor. We are on the move again. Both pastors, although very different, are agents of change for our church. Both pastors fully support the HCI process, the idea of moving out into the community, and helping our neighbors. For the Council, Pastor Valli has been an easy transition. Your 017 Church Council is: The Council had a slow start early on while we were learning the system. But we picked up some steam as the year went on. We solidified most of our church policies from safe sanctuary to the Community Life Center usage policy. We changed our money handling procedure which now more aligns with the Methodist Book of Discipline. Our church acquired a piece of property and the Trustees are deciding what to do with it. We also decided that while still taking care of our members, we want to continue to move outside our wall and help our neighbors. In September, Rev. Dr. Bob Allen, who is the Rio Texas Conference head of the HCI process, gave the Council a refresher course on HCI process. We made some slight changes to our process but we are set and ready for 017. Overall this has been a good year and I am expecting great things for 017. 8. Worship Karen Meadows 9.
