PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ It s been a li le while since I updated everyone on how we are progressing in the To Teach Who Christ Is (TTWCI) campaign. So, this week I have included a full-page report in this bulle n on where we are with the campaign. I hope that you take the me to read it. To sum it up, the good news is that, because of those who generously donated to TTWCI, we had enough money to repair and refinish our pews, and we will have enough money to resurface our parking lot and fix the sewers next year. The bad news is that, because it looks like a significant number of donors will not fulfill their pledges (there are two years le in the campaign) or have cancelled their pledges altogether, it is very unlikely that we will have enough money for our third designated project: purchasing and installing a new hea ng and A/C unit in the church. We will see where we are two years from now. Again, please take a moment to read the report in this bulle n. On another note, I would like to thank our St. Beatrice Women s Club for pu ng together our first Pasta Dinner last week. The Women s Club, along with other wonderful parish volunteers, helped to make it a great night. The food was delicious and plen ful, several prizes were raffled off, and no one walked out during my bad jokes! If you missed the dinner, I hope you can join us for our next parish social (hint: our 2 nd Pizzapalooza coming in October!) Also, this Sunday at the 12pm Mass we have our first monthly Religious Ed. Family Mass for this school year. As part of this Mass we will also have our annual Blessing of Catechists, as we ask God to send His Holy Spirit upon our dedicated catechists and aides who share their gi s by teaching the Catholic faith to our young people in grades 1-8. Our 2018-19 Rel. Ed. catechists and aides are: Sandra Cervantes, Fran Cipriano, Charlene Cruz, Agnieszka Czwordon, Nina Figueroa, Maria Kerr, Bernice Kirchen, Rose Kra, Ron Kra, Adam Lecas, Michelle Morgan, Debbie Quinlan, Lisa Slobodzian, Claudia Sosa, Janet Zito, and our Rel. Ed. Coordinator Zerlina Kirchen. Thank you to them! Finally, I had men oned that my parents and I a ended the Golden Jubilee Wedding Mass at Holy Name Cathedral last Sunday for couples in the Archdiocese celebra ng their 50 th anniversary this year. Below is a photo of Cardinal Cupich, my parents and I a er the Mass. It was a wonderful occasion. St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you. Fr. Rob

PAGE THREE Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time In today s Gospel Jesus called the Twelve, and said to them, If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all. Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will help hungry children feel the arms of Jesus around them. ST. BEATRICE WOMEN S CLUB Thank you to all who bought tickets to our first Pasta Dinner and Raffle held on Saturday, September 15th at the Schiller Park Community Center on 25th Avenue. The event was well attended and all enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Cuomo Catering. Several gift baskets were raffled off, and there was also a Split the Pot cash raffle. Thanks to everyone for the generosity in supporting this event. As Father Rob often says, if you start thanking people individually you will always forget someone. Many people were involved in the success of the dinner. Whether you offered a suggestion at meetings, sold tickets, told friends and family about the event, made a donation, or assisted in some way at the dinner, (set-up, serving, bartending or clean-up), we are thankful for all you did. Our next women s club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 13th at 10:00am. Enjoy the day, Karen, Sue, MaryEllen and Maryjo Rest in Peace It is a holy and wholesome thought that we pray for the dead, Please remember Angeline LoGalbo in your prayers. Longer than you may imagine. The Jesuit fathers opened Saint Mary School in Philadelphia in 1782 in the first light of independence. Catholic and Protestant squabbles about the nature of education forced the Fathers to make this risky and innovative venture in the heart of the city. The school was closed by a devastating fire in 1902, but reopened in 1968 as St. Mary Interparochial School, the first example of a shared parochial school. It is also the only Catholic school within the confines of a national park. This is the Mother School of this uniquely American institution. Many parochial schools, especially in national parishes, were established to preserve the culture and language of the old country, and also to protect young people from prejudice. In other countries, Ireland for one, the Church is authorized to run national schools, sometimes under the sponsorship of a parish. In still other places, such as Quebec, publicly-funded separate schools were administered by the Church. Wherever the state funds Catholic schools, normally enrollment is guaranteed to all applicants. The Quebec system was dismantled in 1998 when the state decided to reorganize schools along linguistic lines rather than religious affiliation. Parochial schools require considerable sacrifice, but they endure as a distinctive treasure of the Church in the United States. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

PAGE SEVEN Update on To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign To Teach Who Christ Is (TTWCI) is a five-year capital campaign that every parish in the Archdiocese is undertaking. We began the campaign in 2015, so we are three years into it at this point. In this campaign, 40% of the funds collected go to the Archdiocese for school and catechesis purposes, and 60% of the funds stay with the parishes, although the parish funds can only be used for specific projects that each parish designated beforehand. We have already completed one of our three designated projects: the repairing and refinishing of our pews. Our second project is to resurface the parking lot and repair the sewers. We were hoping to tackle this project this fall, but unfortunately it looks like we will have to put it on hold un l next spring. We were wai ng un l we had enough money in our TTWCI account for the project (we currently have around $90,000, which is more than the project es mate). At that point we submi ed the paperwork to the Archdiocese to receive our funds. However, we discovered that the diocese needs to assign us a project manager for this job (because of its scope), and they did not have anyone available for several weeks. And the contractors for the parking lot work could not wait too long to schedule our job because their schedules fill up with other projects before winter arrives. So, we will apply for the money again next year and hopefully begin the parking lot project in the spring or summer of 2019. Our third project was to install a new hea ng and air condi oning roo op unit for the church. However, this is the most expensive item (much more expensive than the parking lot). And because it does not look hopeful that we will raise enough funds for this third project, we wanted to make sure to at least complete the other two projects (the pews and the parking lot). Here is where we currently stand with our TTWCI campaign: Pledge goal: $405,000.00 Amount pledged: $468,056.00 Pledges paid: $260,006.10 Pledges owed: $178,529.90 Pledges cancelled: $29,520.00 Number of pledges: 168 Pledges fulfilled: 50 Pledges being paid: 43 Pledges past due: 43 Pledges suspended: 20 Pledges cancelled: 12 To clarify a few points: Past Due refers to pledges that have not been fulfilled in the me that the donor specified (because some people elected to pay off their pledges in less than 5 years); Suspended refers to pledges that a donor started paying on, and then stopped altogether, with no further communica on; Cancelled refers to pledges that people cancelled a er making them, without paying anything. So you can see that, out of the 168 pledges, 93 of those are either fulfilled or are on track to be fulfilled. The remaining 75 pledges are past due or have stopped altogether and this is why I say that it is not hopeful that we will raise enough money for the hea ng and A/C unit for the church. Once we have completed the parking lot project next year, we will re-assess the status of our campaign to determine what kind of maintenance work might s ll be able to be done.
