Order of Worship *those who are able, please stand *PROCESSIONAL HYMN # 259 Jesus Calls Us WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS, REGISTER ATTENDANCE SILENT PRAYER G Gracious God, we come before you this morning knowing that what you call us to be and want for us is sometimes at odds with what the world expects from us. Sometimes we feel on the edge between the world we live in and the world you call us to be a part of. Show us your way, O Holy One, that we may learn how to be about your ministry even as we live on the edge. Open our hearts to receive your word and your guidance for our lives. Amen. PRELUDE CALL TO WORSHIP T H The heavens are telling the glory of God, and creation proclaims God s handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. We give thanks to God who has created all that we have. And we sing praise to God who has created all that we are. VIDEO ANTHEM What a Wonderful World CALL TO CONFESSION T H God s love for us is so amazing: it embraces us and empowers us to be honest about our lives and our need of God s grace. Pray with me. -3-
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON) T H Men: Women: Men: Women: Men: Sometimes we are scared, O God. Other times we just don t know what to do. Most of the time we give in to our own wants even when we know it is not what you want for us. We don t trust in you the way we know that we should. Show us your way, O God, that we may follow you faithfully, even when you lead us to the edge; to a place where the world tells us we should not go ASSURANCE OF PARDON R. D. C O. M God never asks us to go anywhere that God is not willing to go with us. We know that when we find the strength and the courage to trust, we will never be alone. God is greater than anything else in the world that tries to pull us away from God. The good news is that when we trust in God, we will discover courage and love and strength and abundance greater than anything we have ever known. Thanks be to God. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT Jeremiah 1:4 10 (Pastor Carson) Narrator: Now the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah in this way. (Todd Hayes) God: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations. (Youth) Jeremiah: Oh, God! I m not sure this is a good idea. I really don t know how to speak in front of a crowd because I am just a child. I don t think they ll listen or pay attention to anything I say. (Todd Hayes) God: Do not say you can t do this because you are just a child. You will go to the people I send you to and you will say the words I give you to say. So do not be afraid because you won t be alone. I will be with you. (Pastor Carson) Narrator: Then God touched Jeremiah s mouth with the Lord s hand and told Jeremiah: (Todd Hayes) God: I have put my words into your mouth. I appoint you over nations and kingdoms; to lift up and pull down or to destroy and to overthrow or to build and to plant. -4-
ANTHEM Lord, speak to me, that I may speak L H B, J. 1) Lord, speak to me that I may speak in living echoes of your tone. As you have sought, so let me seek your erring children, lost and lone. 2) O strengthen me, that while I stand Firm on the rock and strong in thee, I may stretch out a loving hand To wrestlers with the troubled sea. 3) O teach me, Lord, that I may teach the precious truths which you impart. And wing my words that they may reach the hidden depths of many a heart. 4) O fill me with your fullness, Lord, until my very heart o'erflow in kindling thought and glowing word, thy love to tell, your praise to show.
