The Teams are finishing up their plans and the Pilgrims are all selected. Now everything is in God s hands. It s hard to believe that the Fall Walks (ES 76 and 77) are here. We thank God for his grace in keeping everyone safe as they traveled to the teaming meetings and we count on him to take control of the weekends. Teamers thank you for your dedication to the Walks and we pray and know that God will use each of you to show His love to the pilgrims that will come on the Walks. Community, we need you to pray hard for the Weekend s and all who will be at the camp. Please attend as many of the special events as possible to support the teams and to let the Pilgrims see the love and face of God. It s Emmaus Board election time. The election will be held at the November gathering at Franktown UMC. If interested please see Jim Petro for more information. This commitment does require some time on your part. So pray as you seek Gods direction concerning this opportunity to serve. Remember to pray for the Chrysalis Girl s Flight November 4-5-6-7, 2010 Please turn in your applications to Team or to send a Caterpillar. Continue to pray for the Boy s Flight March 3 6, 2011. I want to close this message with this poem. I hope it will bless your heart! In Christ, Mickey Mantle Merritt Community Lay Director O C T O B E R 2 0 1 0 It s Walk Time!!!!!!!!!!! Take up Thy Cross Take up thy cross, the Saviour said, If thou wouldst My disciple be; Deny thyself, the world forsake, And humbly follow after Me. Take up thy cross; let not its weight Fill thy weak soul with vain alarm; His strength shall bear thy spirit up, And brace thy heart, and nerve thine arm. Take up thy cross, nor heed the shame, Nor let thy foolish pride rebel; The Lord for thee the cross endured To save thy soul from death and hell. Take up thy cross, then, in His strength, And calmly every danger brave; 'Twill guide thee to a better home, And lead to victory o'er the grave. Take up thy cross, and follow Christ, Nor think till death to lay it down; For only he who bears the cross May hope to wear the glorious crown. Charles William Everest
P A G E 2 One of the Unique Christians on the Eastern Shore A couple of family members needed special care, Woody was always there for them, but he never forgot his Lord. Woody grew up in a remote area on the Eastern Shore. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at an early age, and had one purpose in mind that was to take care of his family and serve his Lord. His family needed him, as he was the only family member who could read or write. Woody looked after his family, by taking care of them, helping them in many special ways. A couple of family members needed special care, Woody was always there for them, but he never forgot his Lord. Woody served the Lord, by sharing the Gospel of Christ with anyone who would be willing to listen. Truly he was ahead of his time by passing out tracts and leaflets showing people how to be saved, and live a purposeful life. I had the privilege of meeting Woody at an early age. My being a Christian made me admire this little old man, and wonder at his Holy boldness. He was truly a missionary wherever he worked or went. Most people accepted this little old forward man, who truly was a servant of God. I am sorry I did not get to really be around Woody much in this life, but, I will see Woody in heaven someday. He was truly a man after God s own heart as David of the Bible was. God sent Woody in this world to help his family and share the good news of Christ to anyone who would listen. The Eastern Shore has every reason to be proud of this servant of our Lord Jesus Christ! I am sure when Woody got to heaven, our Lord said to him, Well done thou good and faithful servant (Matthew 23:21) When I get to heaven, I want to see those of my family who have gone on before me. BUT most of all I want to see Jesus! God s servan and yours, Pastor June CHarnock P.S. I will also see Woody and I want to see you! Prayer Chain If you wish to be included on the list for receiving prayer requests or if you are in need of prayer for yourself or someone you may know, you mail email me at: esemmausprayer@gmail.com. All prayer requests will simply be stated as, Please pray for Adam. No medical history, no personal information will be shared, God knows who we are praying for and what the need is. V O U L M E 1 9, N U M B E R 1 0 P A G E 3 Chrysalis News October is the month of departure. Autumn or Fall marks the transition from Summer into Winter. The nights arrive noticeably earlier. Harvest was the term used to refer to the season before the 16 th Century. Somewhat later, more people moved from working the land and started living in towns (mostly educated, wealthier people). The word Harvest lost its reference place to the time of year and now refers only to the time of reaping. Fall or autumn was used and traces back to the origin of Old English and Old Germanic languages. It s believed that they have the meaning of fall of leaf and fall of the year. to look at God s artwork? The beautiful coloring of the leaves; red, amber, golden yellow, orange bursting in wild explosions and flaming shades. Take the time to look at God s beauty. Thank you God for creating such beautiful artwork. Isn t it terrific to know that everything of beauty out there in the world of nature belongs to my father and yours our Heavenly Father that is!! Just before the death of flowers, And before they are buried in snow, There comes a festival season When nature is all aglow. Have you taken time in the Fall We still need to be thinking about this year s upcoming Emmaus and Chrysalis Board elections. It s not too late to consider who we would like to nominate in the fall for our November elections. Prayerfully consider who you would want on the board serving you. Check with them about their willingness to serve. Then submit their nomination on or before October 2, 2010. Self-nominations are also a perfectly legitimate way to get your name on the ballot. All that is needed is a willingness to serve and attend monthly meetings. In particular, we will need someone to take over the Secretary duties and another person to be in charge of Manuals and Records. ATTENTION!! All Community Members Please send your nominations to: Jim Petro 972 Deep Creek Ave Arnold, MD 21012 or e-mail it to jasupetro@juno.com You may find the nomination form on the Eastern Shore Emmaus website (www.esemmaus.org). Nominations will be accepted from the floor at the November Gathering but the person being nominated MUST be in attendance to be added to the ballot.
