Entrance Song Blue Bayou Linda Ronstadt Words of Welcome Fr Scott Jessup Opening Prayer Fr Scott Jessup In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Grace and peace from the Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life
Hymn - Abide with me Abide with me: fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide: when other helpers fail and comforts flee, help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life s little day; earth s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me. I need thy presence every passing hour; what but thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's dark sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me. Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. Henry Francis Lyte 1793-1847.
Prayer Let us pray: Merciful Father, hear our prayers and comfort us; renew our trust in your Son, whom you raised from the dead; strengthen our faith that Sue and all who have died in the love of Christ will share in his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, now and forever. Amen. The Eulogy The Ministry of the Word
Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd: therefore, can I lack nothing. He shall make me lie down in green pastures: and lead me beside still waters. He shall refresh my soul: and guide me in right pathways for his name's sake. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me. You spread a table before me in the presence of those who trouble me: you have anointed my head with oil and my cup shall be full. Surely your goodness and loving-kindness will follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. The Gospel - John 14: 1-6 Jesus said, Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father s house, there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go and prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going. Thomas said to him, Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Homily Fr Scott Jessup Hymn Jerusalem And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England's mountains green? and was the holy Lamb of God on England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here among these dark Satanic mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, till we have but built Jerusalem in England's green & pleasant Land.
The Prayers As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray: Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil for Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen. The Farewell We entrust Sue to the mercy of God. The coffin is sprinkled with holy water as a reminder of baptism, which marked Sue for eternal life. The coffin is censed with incense symbolising our prayers rising to God and Sue s inheritance with all the saints in heaven. The Blessing and Dismissal We ll Meet Again Vera Lynn
