SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY * indicates that the congregation rise in body or in spirit GATHERING PRELUDE The Holy City Pam Prater, Carolyn Reiff A time for prayer & meditation, and/or greeting our fellow worshipers. Please silence cell phones, and be respectful of those around you. At 10am we will stand to sing Part of the Family (inside cover of Hymnal) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS * CALL TO WORSHIP ONE: Beloved church, behold the victory of our God: Jesus, our Lord, has conquered the grave. ALL: Christ is risen! ONE: Sin and death shall reign no more. ALL: Christ is risen! ONE: Let this place resound with joy. ALL: Christ is risen! Thanks be to God. * HYMN #288 Christ The Lord Is Risen Today (Bring flowers forward to the base of the Cross) 1 Christ the Lord is risen today, All creation, join to say Raise your joys and triumphs high, Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, 2 Love's redeeming work is done, Fought the fight, the battle won, Death in vain forbids him rise, Christ has opened paradise. 3 Lives again our glorious King, Where, O death, is now thy sting? Once he died our souls to save, Where thy victory, O grave? 4 Soar we now where Christ has led, Following our exalted Head, Made like him, like him we rise, Ours the cross, the grave, the skies.

* CALL TO CONFESSION * PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Lord Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit we have been raised from the waters of baptism to share in your glorious resurrection. Yet we have not lived as Easter people. We are unsure of your promise, confused about your will, and afraid in the face of danger. Like Mary, we weep at the tomb, but do not recognize your presence. Call us by name, risen Lord, that we may know you with confidence. Whenever we are tempted to fear death, give us courage to confess your Easter victory. Whenever we are distracted by petty conflicts, keep our minds on your reconciling love. Whenever we are overwhelmed by the power of evil, reveal again to us your triumph over the destructive powers of oppression. Forgive us our sin and let our lives be a testimony to your salvation through the love of God and by the power of the Holy Spirit. [silent prayer and personal confession] * DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS AND PEACE ONE: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. ALL: Thanks be to God! ONE: The Peace of Christ be with you ALL: And also with you. * GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING Jeremiah 31:1-6 GOSPEL READING Matthew 28:1-10 ONE: This is the Word of The LORD. ALL: Thanks be to God. SERMON Preaching Resurrection * HYMN #310 Thine Is The Glory 1 Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; endless is the victory thou o er death hast won. Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay. Refrain: Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; endless is the victory thou o er death hast won. 2 Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb; lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom. Let his church with gladness hymns of triumph sing, for her Lord now liveth: death hath lost its sting. [Refrain] 3 No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of life! Life is nought without thee: aid us in our strife. Make us more than conquerors, through thy deathless love: bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above. [Refrain]

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: APOSTLES CREED (unison) I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE ONE: God of Resurrection, ALL: Hear our prayer. THE LORD S PRAYER (unison) Our Father, who art in heaven: hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. RESPONSE

Let earth its song begin! The world resound in triumph, and all that is therein; let all things seen and unseen their notes of gladness blend; for Christ the Lord has risen, our Joy that has no end.
