RESOURCE LIST FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS WORKING WITH MUSLIM PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
2 Resource List info@isbatlanta.org Resource List for Healthcare Providers Working with Muslim Patients and Their Families The Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta (ISB) developed a list of resources to help hospital/hospice chaplains, social workers and family members in fulfilling the spiritual needs for Muslim patients in the metro Atlanta area and also listing end of life resources such as funeral (janaza) services and cemeteries. The majority of Muslim families prefer to bury their loved ones as quickly as possible after death, which means that preparations for a funeral begin immediately after death. Members of the Muslim community perform a ritual washing and preparation of the deceased for burial, typically performed in a funeral home. After this, a funeral prayer service (janaza) is performed at a local mosque. At this point, the community buries the deceased at a cemetery that is familiar with Muslim burial practices.
