Generation No. 1 1. ANDERSON 2 SEALE (JAMES 1 ) 1 was born Abt. 1803 in Fairfield District, South Carolina 2,3,4,5,6, and died 21 Dec 1889 in Greenville, Butler County, Alabama 7. He married (1) MARY ANN (POLLY) ARMSTRONG 8,9 1824 in Butler County, Alabama 10. She was born Abt. 1806 in South Carolina 11,12,13, and died 1871 14. He married (2) JANE RODGERS 13 Jun 1872 in Butler County, Alabama 15. She was born Abt. 1838 16, and died Aft. 1889 17. Notes for ANDERSON SEALE: Anderson s obituary refers to 13 children, but only 10 are accounted for here, plus the unidentified female under five on the 1830 census. There is about a five-year gap between Amanda and Charles, which would account for her. Then there is about a six-year gap between Herbert and Melissa, allowing for two more. Butler County, Alabama Obituaries by Marilyn Davis Barefield, 1985, pg 90: Anderson Seale was born in Edgefield District, SC; moved to Alabama in 1818; died in Greenville 12/21/1889, aged 87. He married Miss Mary Armstrong in Butler Co. in 1824, she having died in 1871. In 1873, he married Miss Jane Rogers who survived him. He is survived by 8 of his 13 children and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Greenville Advocate, 8 Jan 1890. He married ELIZA MCCOTTREY HUGHES 65 25 Aug 1857 in Butler County, Alabama 66. She was born 22 Jul 1840 in Grahamville, Beaufort County, South Carolina 67,68, and died 06 Jun 1912 in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee 69. Notes for REUBEN HARRISON SEALE: Ida Carrie Seale, pg 18, has his birthyear as 1831, but it was consistently 1834 on 1850 and 1880 censuses. 1900 gives 1834. She says he married Cattie and settled in Tennessee; served in CW; names children "Fletcher, High (sic), Guy, William and others". Reuben s wife s name on the 1870 census (blurred) looks like "McCattey". Since her name seems to vary from McOttrey to Mccottey to McCortrey, maybe it was McAutrey. Stallings Family Records, Supplement by James Henry Stallings, San Antonio, TX 1977, pg 70, also lists Fletcher and Guy, but no source. (May have come from Ida Carrie Seale, as he also had the same erroneous data that Ida Carrie had about Amanda Seale marrying Wilson Murphy.)
