In the midst of a busy life, many people find it difficult to notice God s action in their daily affairs. Yet, at the deepest level, many of us long for a more conscious experience of God s presence and love. Spiritual direction is really not about being directed. Rather, it is very much about being encouraged to draw closer to God. If you are curious about spiritual direction at the Casa, or would like to make an appointment with a director, please call Sharon Taszarek at 480-948-7460 or email sharon@thecasa.org.

Faith in Action Ministry Just Scripture meets on March 9th at 9:00 am in in the Ventura room in Piper Hall. Carole Whittaker will lead us through the revelatory meaning of the Scripture Readings for the third Sunday of Lent. Carole's is the third member of our Church family who have agreed to share their knowledge and love of Scripture with us as we seek and share the ways the Word of God speaks to us. Last month Fr. Joe used the St. John's Bible housed in a room off the gift shop to help us understand how Jesus used the Hebrew Scripture to reveal his message of extravagant love. Carole will take us to a place of understanding that will launch us on a quest for what Scripture reveals for us today, so join us and experience the Living Word. Family Faith Activities March 2nd 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Aramaic word mammon does not have a negative connotation. It means property or money. Matthew is pointing out is that since human beings are not self-sufficient; we are dependent on something outside ourselves, God rather than the material goods we own. This is not to say that we don t need material goods, but we are reminded not to be anxious. If what we place first in our lives is God s kingdom and his justice, we will have what we need. God is a loving father who holds the whole world in his hands. He will certainly care for us. Ask each member of your family What do you worry about? and read Matthew 6: 24-34 and discuss: How does God say that he will take care of us? How has God cared for you already? What can you do to stop worrying & rely on God? Activity Worry Stone: find a smooth stone for each member of your family. Using a permanent marker have each person write...do not worry, Mt. 6:25. Activity Trust Walk: with older children and family members do a trust walk. Use a bandana to cover their eyes and walk them about. After each person has a chance to do this discuss how they felt not knowing where they were going, whether they trusted their guide and how does this relate to God leading us. Concluding Prayer: Father we thank you for providing for our every need. Help us not to worry but to have faith. Amen. Give, Pray & Fast A Family Jelly Bean Prayer for Lent Almsgiving, fasting and prayer are the staples to our Lenten journey. This fun craft can help teach our children about these activities of lent. Here s how to do this: On Ash Wednesday provide each child with a glass jar and the Jelly Bean prayer (this prayer is the first part of each activity below in italics). Each color of the jelly bean has a special significance and type of behavior associated with it. Each day your child can earn a jelly bean for their jar by their behaviors. No eating the jelly beans until Easter! The night before Easter fill up any remaining space in your child s jar with white jelly beans God s grace that is freely given. Here are some ideas or create your own! Red is for the blood He gave: Choose something to give up or sacrifice on this day Green is for the grass He made: Earned for special care to creation, be it plants, animals or people! Yellow is for the sun so bright: For sharing God s light by being kind to others White is for God s grace given! Orange is for a the edge of night: For attentiveness during bedtime prayers or for reading a bible story at night Blue is for sweet rest at night: for going to bed on time and with no problems Purple is for His days of sorrow: Earned by apologizing to anybody that we hurt Pink is for each new tomorrow: Earned when we forgave someone who apologized to us Sunday March 9th Confirmation/Eucharist session 10:30 am Wed. March 12th Infant Baptism Information session

From the second we parked our cars, you, and your very capable staff did everything you could to make us feel welcomed. We needed for nothing. What everyone found most surprising was the privacy we felt even though there were several other functions going on. The gathering in the Church just made everything blend so well. It was peaceful and yet full of happiness, and love. I just can t tell you how much we appreciated all your hard word and willingness to make our retreat so successful and your being available Saturday was so very generous. Thank you again, Sue, for giving us a wonderful place to hold our retreat and to see God in a different way.
