MONTHLY SYLLABUS SESSION-2017-18 CLASS-III SUBJECT : SOCIAL STUDIES MONTH CONTENT TERM-I (APRIL-SEPTEMBER) April 2017 Lesson 1: Map of Delhi Important points: MAP Introduction of map and display the map of Delhi in class. Directions Knowledge about the four directions relating and them with our daily life. Information about the important places of Delhi etc. Map of Delhi to be displayed in class and highlight important places of Delhi. Move the students to the ground and describe about different directions involving them. Paste the map of Delhi in notebook and mark some important places of Delhi. Lesson 2 : Delhi A Long Time Ago Important points: Discussion on Delhi in old times and modern day Delhi. 1

Highlight the changes in Delhi in the class Ancient facts to be discussed in class etc. Collect pictures of ancient Delhi and modern Delhi and paste in notebooks. Lesson 3 : Weather of Delhi Discussion on foods and living in summer, winter and rainy season. Discussion on the vegetation in all the three seasons. Differences in seasons of Delhi etc. Divide the class in three different groups and assign one season to each group. Ask them to bring different food items of every season and share in class with each other. May 2017 Lesson 4: Our festivals Discussion on main festivals of India Discuss about various religions followed in India and their respective festivals Ways of celebration of different festivals Some festivals that are celebrated in Delhi only etc. Identify different students of all the religions and ask 2

them to share in class about how they celebrate their main festivals? Paste pictures of various festivals of India. July 2017 Lesson 5 : Our worship places Discuss on different worship places i.e. Temple, Mosque, Gurudwara and Church. Important and big temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras Paste pictures of famous temples, mosques, churches Take the students to the nearby worship place. Lesson 6: Travelling in Delhi Discussion on different modes of public transport Knowledge about ring railways Difference between the ancient and modern means of transport Metro rail network in Delhi. Pontoon bridge on yamuna river etc. Visit the nearest metro station Make the logo of metro in your notebooks and colour it. 3

August 2017 Lesson 7 : Delhi for Children Introduction of zoological park Different kinds of animals and birds in zoo. Information about Doll Museum, Rail Museum, Bal Bhawan, Children s Park etc. Visit India Gate and share the experiences. Make different kinds of dolls with clay and display in class. You can make different things also. Lesson 8 : Qutub Minar to Chandni Chowk Travelling by a metro train to different places in Delhi. Description about the metro station, token of metro, process of entry and exit etc. Features of metro train, underground metro to be discussed in class etc. Make a Red line route map in your notebook and mark the stations that come in Red Line Metro route. Write the names of some underground metro station. September 2017 Lesson 9 : Outing at Chandni Chowk History of Chandni Chowk and its market. 4

Description of the old markets in Chandni Chowk. Knowledge about tram etc. Paste the pictures of any four old famous buildings at Chandni Chowk. September 2017 September 2017 REVISION FOR SA-I EXAMS SA-I EXAMINATION TERM-II (OCTOBER-MARCH) October 2017 Lesson 10 : Kajari Ka Mohalla Discussion of social life of Delhi. Concept of togetherness Celebration of festivals together in a locality Unity in diversity should be explained etc. * Collect some information about food, life and festival of some families living in your neighbourhood and note down in your copies. Lesson 11 : Villages of Delhi Knowledge about the life style followed in villages of 5

Delhi. Difference in villages of Delhi and Modern Markets. Knowledge of different dialects in Hindi language. Ponds, wells and bawari s in villages etc. Activity Write the name of your parents village. List out the important features of village life. November 2017 Lesson 12 : Children s Games of Delhi Discussion about some common games played by children in Delhi Involving the children in games that are commonly played in Delhi. Listing the names of general games played by children in Delhi. Children will play the games in groups with rules followed by them etc. Paste pictures of some indoor and outdoor games in notebooks. Encourage the children to play the games mentioned in the chapter with the rules given. Lesson 13 : Outing in Delhi-I 6

Discussion on famous ancient buildings and monuments in Delhi Knowledge about the art and architecture of monuments Discussion on Qutub Minar, Red Fort and Humayun s Tomb History of these monuments etc. Make a model of Qutub Minar by paper folding and match sticks. Visit Humayun s tomb during the local tour of school. Lesson 14 : Outing in Delhi-II History of President s house to be discussed Construction and architecture of Jantar-Mantar Construction and architecture of Connaught Place, nearby metro station to be discussed etc. Make a small national flag and paste it on the top of President s House picture in notebook. Paste picture of Jantar Mantar and write 5 lines about it. December 2017 Lesson 15 : Picnic at India Gate A journey to India Gate and Rajpath. Knowledge about the historical background of India gate. 7

Discussion on the construction of India Gate. Brief discussion on Amar Jawan Jyoti etc. Visit India Gate for the picnic. Write the names of atleast 5 brave soldiers that you saw on the walls of India Gate. Lesson 16 : Rajghat Discussion about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi towards freedom of India. National Gandhi Museum and belongings of Gandhiji in the Museum. Importance of Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi etc. Collect pictures of atleast 5 things that were used by Mahatma Gandhi and paste it notebooks. January 2018 Lesson 17 : Means Communication Discussion on the ways of communication in olden times Ways of communication in modern times. Citing the differences in both the old and new techniques of communication etc. Paste are inland letter and a postcard in your notebook. 8

Collect atleast 5 stamps and paste it. Paste the pictures of modern day sources of communication etc. February 2018 (1 st week) Lesson 18 : Our Government and Administration Discussion on working system of Delhi s Government. Organisations working in Delhi. Constituencies of Delhi and its representatives Delhi police and Traffic police in Delhi etc. List out the names of Chief Minister of Delhi, President of India and Prime Minister of India. Write any 5 facilities that Delhi Government provides to its people. 2 nd week Feb. 2018 Feb-March 2018 REVISION FOR SA-2 EXAMINATION SA-2 EXAMINATION 9
