SERVICE FOR THE LORD'S DAY Youth Sunday April 15, 2018 10:15 am Assemble in God's Name BIBLICAL AND INFORMAL GREETING Following brief announcements, the congregation is invited to prepare in silence for worship. Please use this time to pray, to meditate, or to read the Scriptures for today. PRELUDE Jesus Loves Me Constance and Annalyn Warner *CALL TO WORSHIP Just and merciful God, you speak through the prophets, challenging us to seek peace rooted in justice. Help us to hear your urgent call. Loving God, in Jesus you change our lives for good, challenging us to work for reconciliation. Help us to see your way of truth and love. With-us God, your Holy Spirit moves us to action, challenging us to live the Good News. Help us to respond wholeheartedly, here and now to say Yes! Amen! (Iona Abbey Worship Book) *PRAYER OF THE DAY Over time, over space, over matter, over thought, you are our God, in all and through all. The noises of war are loud in your ears, as is the cry of a newborn child. You share the excitement of those pioneering research as well as the last breaths of those nearing death. And in Christ, all the pain and potential in the world are held together in the hope of healing. Be present to us here, gracious God, and let your Spirit open us to glimpse that fairer world which you intend for us and for all people. Amen. (Iona Abbey Worship Book) *HYMN NO. 466 (Blue Hymnal) O for A Thousand Tongues to Sing AZMON PRAYER OF CONFESSION For our incapacity to feel the sufferings of others, and our tendency to live comfortably with injustice, God forgive us. For the self-righteousness which denies guilt, and the self-interest which strangles compassion, God forgive us. For those who live their lives in careless unconcern, who cry Peace, peace when there is no peace, we ask your mercy. For our failings in community, our lack of understanding, we ask your mercy. For our lack of forgiveness, openness, sensitivity, God forgive us. For the times we were too eager to be better than others, when we are too rushed to care, when we are too tired to bother, when we don t really listen, when we are too quick to act from motives other than love, God forgive us. (Wild Goose Big Book of Liturgies) PERIOD OF SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON In the name of God, the father, Son and Holy Spirit, our plea for absolution has been heard. God s promises are sure: our sins are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
