PHONE: (972) 562-2601 Robert William Potter, Sr. November 29, 1918 - January 4, 2008 Robert (Bob) William Potter, Sr., age 89, passed away quietly in his sleep at his home in McKinney, Texas. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. If you spent any time with Bob, you would find yourself immersed in stories about WWII, the Biloxi Gulf Coast and his younger days in New York. Most especially, he was proudest to be part of what he termed "the greatest generation" and his role as flight engineer on a B-29 during World War II. Grandpa Bob Potter had a sparkle in his eyes, and a quick wit. He loved to sing Big Band songs to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was caring, creative and a friend to all who met him. He was born November 29, 1918, in Manchester, New York, the son of John and Hariette Potter. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II as a Warrant Officer in The United States Army Air Corps. After the war, he received a Bachelor's degree in Industiral Engineering from Youngstown University and was employed most of his career with Phillips Van Heusen. He is proceeded in death by both of his wives, and is survived by his son, Robert Potter, II and wife, Sue, of McKinney; grandchildren, Laura Mullen, Jennifer Aguirre, Emily Kelley and Jonathan Potter; great-grandchildren, Kyle, C.J. and Alyssa Mullen; brothers, Floyed and Ken Potter; and a host of other family and friends. Raymond) who passed away in May of 1994. I had the wonderful privlege of meeting Bob at a family reunion. I will never forget his intoxicating laugh and that twinkle in his eyes. I really wish I had gotten to know Bob better. God Bless Bob. My prayers go out to Bob,Rob
and the entire Potter family that perhaps in heaven we will all get to love and laugh together. NANCY ROSE POTTER-SHUMWAY, JANUARY 21, 2008 I regret that I never had the chance to meet Bob. I'm the stepdaughter of his cousin, Dutch (Elton), who passed away in the summer of 2006. Dutch and my mother, Marjorie Brown Potter, always spoke highly and fondly of Bob. JEANNE BROWN, JANUARY 20, 2008 Dear Bill,Sue and Family, Bob was "one in a million"; a very extraordinarily kind, gentle, caring, loving person who enjoyed life to the fullest; accepted his responsibilities, disappointments and sorrows with great aplomb. He loved his family and his blue eyes sparkled when he read his letters to "Grandpa Potter" and viewed the pictures they contained. He was a big part of my life, a faithful friend, and I will miss him. My heart goes out to you and all his family and close friends. Our trust and faith in God will comfort us knowing he has received his eternal reward. With love and prayers, Margaret Brou MARGARET MARY BROU, JANUARY 15, 2008 Rob: Don & I are very sorry to hear about your father. Please accept our condolences in his passing. We are sorry that neither of us are able to come tonight. Don Luckinbill Bill Palmquist BILL PALMQUIST, JANUARY 10, 2008 Bob was my stepfather and the finest man I ever knew. My husband described him as "one of my favorite people". I wish I had the ability to emulate the way he lived his life and related to people. I never heard him say a negative thing about ANYBODY. He was kind. He was giving. He was always positive, no matter what the situation. I always referred to him as my mother s knight in shining armor, as her life would have been entirely different if she had not married him and had him to love and care for her during her brief remaining time with us. She was so very, very happy to find love once more. I tell their story often to friends and family. DONNA HASLETT, JANUARY 9, 2008 I am a great niece of my Uncle Bob Potter, though I didn't have the privilege of
spending a lot of time with him, my few memories will last forever. I will never forget his constant laugh and smiles, his inspirational spirit and his love for ice cream. His constant positive attitude will be with me forever. I love you Uncle Bob and I will miss you. DINA ELAINE STOCKTON, JANUARY 8, 2008 Bob was a kind, gentle, and very patient gentleman loved by all who knew him. He was my neighbor and true friend for many years before Hurricane Katrina. I have missed him since then and will always. Our loss is God's gain. Claire E. Brou, Ocean Springs, Ms. CLAIRE E. BROU, JANUARY 8, 2008 Uncle Bob was my father Floyd Potter s younger brother. He was and always will be an important part of my life. Since I was a child, I always looked forward to my Uncle s visits whether it was Christmas time when the whole family gathered or later in life when it was Uncle Bob making his annual trek from Ocean Springs. He was an absolute delight with a quick wit, an easy smile, and his ever-present positive attitude. He could brighten a gloomy day with his twinkling eyes and mischievousness, especially around his older brothers and sisters. That always got the fun going. Uncle Bob was special. I will miss him greatly, as will all his family. His qualities made this world a better place. We love you Uncle Bob. Karen A. Potter KAREN A. POTTER, JANUARY 8, 2008 Ever since the age of three, Mr. Bob was one of my favorite neighbors. Every year, he'd always remember my mom and I by sending us birthday and christmas cards. Whenever I had a door-to-door fundraiser, I knew I could always count on him to help me out. He was nothing but very nice and generous to us. I'm so blessed to have met him in my life. He'll always be in my thoughts and prayers. GABRIELLE R. BROU, JANUARY 8, 2008 We knew Bob as a brilliant, vibrant, cheerful, gentle, kind, generous, and patient man with a smile, aura, and heart of gold that we will never forget. He was indeed our rare find. It would be a better world if more people emulated
him. Farewell friend, until we meet again. JOE & AUDREY BROU, JANUARY 8, 2008 I loved watching the video of Mr Potter as flight engineer (he was so proud of that) and listening to his stories of the war. He was always so full of cheer and laughter and was never without his big smile. He made the best chocolate desserts ever!! Thanks, Mr Potter... KATHY TAYLOR, JANUARY 8, 2008 It was the summer of 1977 when I lived with Uncle Bob and Aunt Gingo in Pottsville, PA. Uncle Bob was kind, patient, and loving. I remember how he seemed so proud of his wine cellar where he made homemade wine. I was amazed at all the bottles filled with juice furiously fermenting away. We spent Labor Day weekend touring New England. We visited all the historical locations. He was so much fun to be around. He joked with me and taught me so much. I also loved listening to my cousin, Billy (the scientist) debate with his dad (the engineer). I will never forget that time. I plan to hold these and other precious memories close to my heart until I see Uncle Bob again in heaven. My prayers go out to all those who knew my uncle and who will miss him. God be with you. BETTY ANN WORTHINGTON, JANUARY 7, 2008 We will laugh with him again in another time, in another place. CHUCK MILLS, JANUARY 7, 2008 Mr. Bob Potter was my uncle by marriage. A finer, kinder, more loving gentleman would be hard to find. Mr. Potter was, at all times, a gentleman, full of fun and generosity. Everyone in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, knew "Mr. Bob". He was "YOUNG" beyond his years and his cheerfulness and positive outlook would make a sad day happy. I can still see him on his morning walks down to the beach. I love you, "Mr. Bob" and will look for you in heaven. JUDY DERREL BROKL, JANUARY 6, 2008
