GRADUATION CEREMONY St. Gerald School Oak Lawn, IL May 31, 2003 "Pomp and Circumstance" - by Edward Elgar (remain seated) Introduction - Angeline Nalepa For the graduating class of 2003, today is a milestone. We stand here today at the end of one journey and the beginning of another. Even though we are leaving the school and moving on to greater accomplishments that lie ahead, we will never forget the knowledge and morals we have attained, our dreams we've achieved, and our memories that will last a lifetime. We would like to thank our teachers, friends, and family for encouraging and helping us along this journey. We may be leaving St. Gerald, but we will always keep the values we learned here, the friendships we've made, and our bond with the Church. We will leave today with many new goals to achieve, but the good times we've had here will never be forgotten. Let us now stand and join in our opening song... Opening Song: "We Are Called" Gather #718 First Reading: Proverbs 4: 1-7 - Ronald Anderson Hear, 0 children, a father's instruction, be attentive, that you may gain understanding! Yes, excellent advice I give you; my teaching do not forsake. When I was my father's child, frail, yet the darling of my mother, he taught me and said to me: "Let your heart hold fast my words: keep my commands, that you may live!" her and she will safeguard you. The beginning of wisdom is: get wisdom; at the cost of all you have, get understanding." This is the Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 66: ~~et all the Earth cry out in joy to the Lord." Gather #65 Second Reading: Jeremiah 1:4-10 - Katie Ruane The word of the Lord came to me thus: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. "Ah, Lord God!" I said, "I know not how to speak; I am too young... " But the Lord answered me, say not, "I am too young." To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak. Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord. Then the Lord extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying, "See, I place my words in your mouth! This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms: To root up and to tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and to plant." This is the Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God Gospel Acclamation: Celtic Alleluia - Gather #258 Gospel - Father Richard LoBianco Homily - Father Richard LoBianco "Get wisdom, get understanding! Do not forget or turn aside from the words I utter. Forsake her not, and she will preserve you; love
