He told his disciples in John 8:31-32, If you hold to my teaching you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Obviously truth is important to Jesus. This month we will look at identifying truth and when we find it, tell others about it. Last fall 70 Messiah members, in 8 small groups, began a study entitled The Truth Project. This 12-week course examines many false things we have been taught in school and elsewhere. These falsehoods push us to adopt a worldview based on human reason instead of a biblical-based worldview of life. The world s lies impact our view of God, mankind, ethics, history, sociology, labor, government and even our view of America s founding principles. One frequent comment from students goes something like, I was never taught this truth about (an item covered in that day s topic). Often students realize they have been misled by untrue historical facts and/or overlooked biblical teachings that they learned as children or adults. I don t agree with everything in the course. But, it gave me an opportunity to reflect on things I believed to be true that are not. It built my confidence to share my faith. I feel more equipped to share with others a biblical worldview on topics like science, history and church & state. For example, people often talk about separation of church and state, therefore the Bible and religion have no place in government. Yes, our founding fathers didn t want a state-established church. However, the truth is, they founded this country on biblical principles that are essential to us continuing to live as a free nation. There is no constitutional or other basis for eliminating God and the Ten Commandments from guiding our nation s and our citizens actions. I encourage you to take The Truth Project when it is next offered. Warning: The early course segments use some complex reasoning, so you may find yourself wanting to take this course more than once. The course may not strengthen your faith, per se, but it equips you to stand your ground with facts, against those who believe or promote the false teachings of the world. Ron Bardal, chairman, Ablaze Steering Committee

FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD-Sunday, March 17-24. Messiah will once again sponsor homeless families at our congregation for a week. We are looking forward to this opportunity to use the gifts God has given us to serve. We will need volunteers to prepare and serve breakfast and dinner, evening hosts, people who enjoy doing an activity or craft, someone to sleep overnight (you do get to sleep), assist with set up, take down and laundry. If you are unable to sign up this session, please consider a food or monetary donation. We will begin sign up Feb 24 so watch for our table. There will be a training meeting on Tuesday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. This year we will have a guest speaker from Families Moving Forward. So even if you are not volunteering this session but would like to learn more about how to help the dire situation of homelessness here in our area, please join us. We are also very excited to announce our new co-chairs Jean Rollins and Marty Lukaszewski. LOVE A GOOD MYSTERY? The Women Of Messiah invite you to attend their annual tea party in April. We will participate in a MYSTERY TEA PARTY The Case of the Queen s Missing Teapot. Join the cast of characters in finding out WHO DUNNIT. The tea will start at 2:00 pm on April 20th at Messiah. A light snack will be provided by WOM. Our tea is being sponsored by The Mad Hatter Tea Room in Anoka who are providing all of the tea. We will also have a teacup swap - bring a new or vintage teacup and saucer to swap (no chips, cracks or stains please). You can sign-up at church or contact Jodi Klaus at 763-205-5005. XYZ The congregation is invited to join XYZ on Sun afternoon, April 14 for The Lakeshore Players "OLD TIME RADIO", a live variety show. Lakeshore's traveling performance group brings classic and original radio scripts to life for audiences both young and old. Mark this date on your calendar for an entertaining show for your whole family and join us afterwards for a pot luck dinner. More information to follow. PRESCHOOL NEWS I would like to thank the people of Messiah Lutheran Church for making it possible for the Word of God to be shared with children for the past 39 years at Messiah Preschool. It is important that we not forget the children and that we welcome them with open arms just as Jesus did. This year, 51 children are enrolled in Messiah Preschool. Our preschool was once again voted The Best Preschool in Mounds View. The learning that takes place here has had real meaning. Every day brings something new to learn. We learn about nature, our families, our school, alphabet, numbers and so many things. Best of all, we learn about our Savior. Some children may hear about Jesus for the first time in preschool. Some children may hear about Jesus for the only time in preschool. As you know, a seed planted may sprout at any time. God, the Gardener, knows when it will sprout but we do not. It is our privilege to be the ones who plant. As I write this, the children are learning about one of the miracles that Jesus performed. They are learning about the feeding of the 5,000. Pastor Chris began our week with this Bible story and with songs that he has taught the children. Thank you, Pastor Chris. We will review the story throughout the week and give thanks that God is so good to us and takes care of us. Our monthly Bible verse is 1 John 4:9 We love because God first loved us. Please keep Messiah Preschool, the staff and children in your prayers. Thank you. Shirley Beyer, Preschool Director 2 THE MESSIAH MARCH NEWSLETTER
