OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) From the Pastor : This coming week and this Labor Day Weekend always are times of dramatic change for those affected directly by school schedules. In one way or another, that means most of us. We had our annual all-staff visioning workshop on Tuesday and we are launched for the year. The focus vision for the year is: May God set us on fire with the desire to know our faith, to live it, and to share it with others. This focus comes first of all from the Universal Church as Pope Benedict has designated this year as the Year of Faith. In addition, our local New Ulm Diocese is emphasizing the call to know and share the faith in the intentional process of evangelization. In our school, religious education programs, liturgies and all our community activities, we are challenged to spread the Goodnews of God s love revealed in Jesus. That is what evangelization means. We do this through sharing of the stories of faith of how Christ and his message have shaped our lives. It also is done in preaching, in catechesis, and in receiving the sacraments. This process goes on in the mass media and in small groups as well as in person-to-person sharing. Key to the effectiveness of our efforts is the prayerful devotional life of the whole community. All are a part of this mission to spread the Goodnews. It is our mandate from Christ as he handed on his mission to the Church. I encourage all to come alive to the need of a New Evangelization in our culture and in our personal lives. In a simple slogan FIRE UP!! Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them a fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth. Amen. Please continue to pray for and participate in the mission to spread the Goodnews! What is the way to a person s heart? It is said that the way to a man s heart is through his stomach. Although exploring the truth of that statement could be interesting, the latter question remains: just what is the way to a person s heart. To penetrate the human heart where the desire for God resides, words alone do not suffice. Expressing faith in the one, true God requires a different language - one of the most powerful languages being music. We simply cannot love God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength without lifting our voice in song. If you would like to share your gift of faith through music, join us for New Member Night September 5, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the Rehearsal Hall. There are no auditions, and all voice parts are needed and instrumentalists. Membership is open to 7 th graders on up. Church choir membership is one of the most demanding of volunteer ministries in a parish. (A current choir member will tell you all about that). The rewards are great: friendship, music making and Food! Contact Director, Barbara Frank with questions or concerns at barbara.frank@churchofstpeter.org Rehearsals: 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday Sunday warm-up: 9:25 a.m. Mass: 10:00 a.m.

Church of St. Paul August September 2, 2012 Pastor Fr. Philip Schotzko Priest in Residence Fr. In the first reading from Deuteronomy, God tells his chosen people that the Commandments from God include everything that they need to live in relationship to God and each other. They come from God and are complete and perfect. We are not to add new ones or take away any of these. In the second reading from the Book of James, we are told that it is not enough to hear the word. We must take it into our hearts and act on it through works of Charity. We are told not to be overly influenced by the world around us. In the Gospel from Mark, we are told to be faithful to the meaning of God s law that he has placed within us and not just act like it on the outside like the Pharisees. Our actions must flow from a true heart-felt faith and love within us. Otherwise we are hypocrites just like the Pharisees who do things for show and not from love.
