Hard to believe, but we re already one month into the Faith Formation calendar year. This being my first year starting from the first class day, I have been enjoying really digging in to planning the year and learning what works well and what may need to be tweaked next year. The teacher in me is just loving this process! Another perk of being on board for the beginning of the year is getting to know our families better. I have had the pleasure of seeing your smiling faces each Sunday, listening to your experiences in the program and seeing your enthusiasm for giving your children positive and fruitful experiences to learn about their faith. In a world where so many activities compete for our attention, it is reassuring to see that parents have been able to strike a balance between providing their children with both secular and nonsecular experiences that truly are shaping the whole child. The look of Sunday has certainly changed over the years. Stores are open for business, kids sports games are scheduled, there are countless road races and other fun family activities competing for our weekend time, but still, the parents of St. Patrick s consistently keep their children s faith in the forefront. For example, we have many parents who, I know first-hand, put many hours of thought into how to allow their children to participate in their favorite sports or in scouts etc. (which is a very important part of a child s ability to discover his/her own strengths) and still include Faith Formation classes in their children s lives. These parents are very proactive about either enrolling in our home school program, or doing the lessons at home for the first 6 or so weeks until the sports season ends and their children can resume classroom sessions. This takes a great deal of time and commitment from parents, but they rise to the challenge and their children, and indeed their family life, is all the richer because of their dedication. I am also blessed to have such faithful and committed teachers in our program. I can hear them teaching lessons that they clearly have spent a great deal of time planning. When I visit the classrooms each week I find engaged, happy, and interested children fully participating and teachers whose faces are bright with enthusiasm and joy. It is in these moments that both the teacher and the Catholic in me is beyond jubilant. So I must thank all of you; parents, teachers, students and grandparents for making my job feel more like the comfort of an old fashioned Sunday of attending Mass and then heading to grandma s house. With all the uncertainty and conflict in the world today, my St. Patrick s family always provides a solid foundation and a love-filled, faith-filled safe zone where I can refill my cup full of much needed faith. My hope is that yours and your children s experiences in our program offer the same to you. Sincerely in Christ, Maryanne Are you new to St. Patrick Parish? John 21 Ministry Did you know that we have served over 18,000 meals since we began in February of 2014. That is amazing. We have over 154 volunteers and 9 teams. We serve an average of 150 meals each week. Some weeks we serve up to 175. It is a lot of work and we want say thank you to the following Team Leaders and their teams. Your dedication is greatly appreciated. Team 1: Anne Covino and Mary Lou Verla Team 2: Joe Deneault Team 3: Jessica Ryan Team 4: Gail Langley Team 5: John Lapointe Team 6: Marcia Lewis Team 7: Cindy Sullivan Team 8: Kitty Manyak Team 9: Marty Green and Maura Mahoney Green I also want to thank Eileen and John Mitchell and our bread ministry, who twice a week pick up donated bread at Panera. The bread is then brought to the parish center to be wrapped. Once it is wrapped it is put in the freezer for breakfast on Saturday and what is not used for the breakfast is given to those in need. Due to an increase in the number of meals we serve all our teams could use a couple extra people. Do you know any of these team leaders and want to help with this wonderful ministry to the poor in our community? Feel free to talk to them or call Shelly at the rectory.
