The Samaritan July, 2018 Jeff Noyed, Director Summertime at Jericho Road Ministries Summertime is very busy at Jericho Road. There are a number of events that I would like to highlight. 1. Please mark your calendars for Friday night, July 20th from 6:00-8:00 PM for an extra-special benefit music/concert night for Jericho Road at J. Arthurs Coffee House. Jericho Road will receive $100 for each person in attendance up to 200 people. To secure your place please email: pastorjohn@jerichoroad.us or us at 612.455-1193. 2. Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless has there special July matching campaign. Last year through this matching program Jericho Road received $2,000 because of generous donations that came in. So, please consider this special opportunity to be involved with the Open Your Heart match - it is needed and very helpful! 3. The Urban Softball Series will be having their 28th Annual Softball Tournament on Saturday, July 28th at Powderhorn Park. All are welcome to come by and cheer on the Jericho Road team. 4. The Shoe Bus is coming on July 27th from 9-11 AM. Kid s shoes are sold for $2.00 a pair, adults are $5.00 a pair. The sponsor, Good in the Hood, collects the shoes from Schueller Shoes and loads them according to size on the shoe bus. Proceeds of the shoes sold will go to Hunger Fighting organizations like Jericho Road. It is a win-win situation. 5. The Dental R.V. is coming on August 3rd from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM to do cleanings, x-rays, and fill cavities. A special thanks to the Director of Operation Grace, John Braddock, and the Dentist for the Day, Paul Stone, for making this event a reality.
6. The eighth annual back-pack distribution will happen on August 17th where we plan to distribute 28-35 Backpacks to neighborhood children in need. 7. Our Garden program, called Gardens of Praise, is providing 25 garden plots for urban gardens to till, plant, water, weed and harvest their own produce. 8. An Up-North camping trip (BWCA or Big Sandy) is being planned for neighborhood youth from August 11th - 13th. 9. On Fridays we share a 10 minute devotional for 125 adults. This summer our speakers: Rene, Dana, Mario, Colton and Josh will be sharing from Desiring God Ministries ABC s of God on the following lessons about God: Creator, Sovereign, Holy, Righteous, Deliverer & Merciful and then our response to God: Seeking God, Trusting God, and Enjoying God. Please pray on Fridays for each of these men who will be speaking. 10. Lastly, in conjunction with Jubilee Church and the Jubilee Youth Center we will be hosting a Vacation Bible School for the second straight year. Last year we had one volunteer working with 4-12 year olds as she went through Parables of Jesus. This year, with the coordinating effort of Jess from Jubilee there are over 12 volunteers working with two different classes: 4-8 year olds and 9-12 year olds. We started last week and had 25 neighborhood children in attendance. A few were proudly displaying their masterfully colored lesson: C is for Creator. Creator means: God made all things. What a joy it is to be impacting lives: Food, Teeth, Feet, Gardening, Softball, Back-Packs, Camping, and the Minds and Hearts through Spiritual teachings about God. Your partnership in Prayer, the Open Your Heart July Match, and coming to the extra-special J. Arthur event make all of these things a reality!
Laurie McRostie, Gardens of Praise Coord. Gardens of Praise 2018 Season There are seasons for everything and this gardening season started late!! Do you remember the blizzard at the end of April? Our gardeners didn t get going until almost the end of May and some just last weekend. That s okay. Most of our gardeners came back and we are excited for a few new ones. It takes a lot of work to get gardens ready. You can see Rachel working her first plot and it is almost cleared. The other plot next to her is ALL weeds! She worked hard to get that plot clear too. Flowers and vegetables are coming. Diligence in the garden at this time of year is critical. Weeds are flourishing. Weeds are like sin, if you don t prune them out there will be no fruit. I love weeding; it relieves a lot of stress if each weed is a problem you toss out or sin you kill. We are on our way now though. Sun and rain are sprouting seeds and plants are growing.
