Bible Edition You Move You Lose Summary The bear cubs Stubby and Prissy can t seem to agree on anything not even on who should close the door. Even their forest friends walk out because of their bickering. The cubs finally decide to settle the issue with a game of, You move, you lose. However, two raccoon burglars show up for an unforgettable game of their own. But when a wolf comes by chasing a little kitten, their stubbornness is tested to the limit. Stubby declares victory, but he soon realizes that the true winner is his sister Prissy. In this stimulating book, Carl Sommer shows the folly of stubbornness, and the importance of tolerance, cooperation, and friendship. Main Virtues Tolerance/Friendship/Cooperation Other Virtues Caring, Cheerfulness, Civic Virtue, Compassion, Forgiveness, Kindness, Loyalty, Obedience to Parents, Positive Mental Attitude, Respect for Others, and Responsible Citizenship Contents Tolerance/Stubbornness Kindness Quarreling and Complaining Showing Compassion to Others Accepting Blame Friendship and Correction Cooperation Questions

Tolerance/Stubbornness Papa and Mama taught their cubs about sharing and being kind to one another, but Stubby and Prissy would not listen. Stubby always wanted to have his way, and Prissy always wanted to have her way or else there was trouble. They could not tolerate each other. When their forest friends came to play, Stubby and Prissy always ended up fussing and yelling at each other. God wants us to be tolerant of others and not have a stubborn spirit. 1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king. Jeremiah 5:23 But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart; they have revolted and departed. You Move You Lose Jeremiah 16:12 And you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, each one follows the dictates of his own evil heart, so that no one listens to Me. Mark 3:5 And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Romans 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God. Additional verses: Leviticus 26:18-20; Deuteronomy 21:18-21; Judges 2:19; Nehemiah 9:29; Jeremiah 7:24, 9:13-14; Zechariah 7:11 * The check is a recommended scripture to teach the particular lesson. All verses are from the New King James Version. Kindness One day Mama said, Papa and I are going outside to pick berries and nuts. If you need us, added Papa, just call us. We ll be nearby. Now be kind to each other while we re gone, said Mama. Mama encouraged them to be kind, but they refused to listen. Proverbs 19:17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given. 2

You Move You Lose Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Ephesians. 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. Colossians. 3:12-14 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; [13] bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. [14] But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. Additional verses: Proverbs 11:16-17; Proverbs 12:25; Proverbs 14:21; Proverbs 14:31; 1 Corinthians 13:4 Quarreling and Complaining Notice when someone likes to argue and complain that a very small thing can become a major issue. Stubby and Prissy began to quarrel over closing a door, and they ended up with a major battle. God does not want us to be quarreling and complaining. Proverbs 13:10 By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well-advised is wisdom. Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 2 Corinthians 12:20-21 For I fear lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not wish; lest there be contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults; [21] lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced. Philippians 2:14-15 Do all things without complaining and disputing, [15] that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Additional verses: Proverbs 15:17-18, Romans 16:17, 1 Corinthians 1:10-12, Galatians 5:15, Ephesians 4:31, 1 Thessalonians 5:13, 1 Peter 3:10-11 3

You Move You Lose Showing Compassion to Others Even though Prissy vowed she would never talk or move, she was willing to lose because she had compassion to help the little kitten. We likewise should show compassion to others. Matthew 14:14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 15:32 Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way. Mark 6:34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. 2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous. Additional verses: Psalm 145:8; Matthew 9:36; Matthew 18:21-35; Matthew 20:34; Mark 1:41; Luke 10:30-37 Accepting Blame As Papa and Mama walked up, Stubby tried to explain, It s all my fault. I ve been very foolish. I m as much to blame as Stubby, said Prissy with a shaky voice. I was just as foolish and stubborn. Instead of blaming each other for what had happened, both Stubby and Prissy acknowledged that they were foolish. Many times when people do wrong, they often blame others instead of themselves. God wants us to accept the blame when we do wrong, and, if we have sinned, to confess our sins. When we confess our sins, the good news is that God forgives us. Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. 4

You Move You Lose Proverbs 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Mark 1:5 Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Additional verses: Genesis 3:8-13; Psalm 51:1-5; Jeremiah 3:12-13; Mark 1:5; Luke 15:18-24; Luke 18:9-14 Friendship and Correction When Stubby asked, Was all this a joke? Ricky Rabbit said, We saw you and Prissy sitting on the couch and acting stubborn. So we asked the raccoons to do something to show you how silly it is to act that way. Prissy said, I m not mad. Stubby agreed, Neither am I. We learned an important lesson. True friends will tell you when you do something wrong even if they know you will not like to hear it. Stubby and Prissy finally took correction. The Bible says much about listening to the rebukes from the wise and taking correction. Proverbs 12:1 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 15:5 A fool despises his father s instruction, but he who receives correction is prudent. Proverbs 15:31-32 The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise. [32] He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, 5

but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding. Proverbs 27:5-6 Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed. [6] Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. You Move You Lose Proverbs 29:15 The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Additional verses: Psalm 141:5; Proverbs 1:29-31; Proverbs 9:8; Proverbs 10:17; Proverbs 15:10; Proverbs 15:12; Proverbs 25:12; Proverbs 28:23; Proverbs, 29:1; Jeremiah 5:3; Matthew 7:24-27; Revelation 3:19 Cooperation Papa noticed that the front door was opened. Would someone please close the door for me? he asked. With a bounce, two young cubs raced to the door. Yes, Stubby and Prissy had learned their lesson. They finally learned to be good and cooperate with each another. Psalm 37:3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men. 3 John 1:11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God. Additional verses: Psalm 37:27, 1 Thessalonians 5:15, Hebrews 13:16, 1 Peter 3:11 6

God wants us to accept the blame when we do wrong, and, if we have sinned, to confess our sins. When we confess our sins, the good news is that God forgives us. The Bible says, If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
