Luke 3:4 It doesn t seem possible that we are already celebrating the 2nd Sunday of Advent. As a parish, we have had a blessed and busy fall season with the beginning of St. Bernard School and Religious Education classes, the many wonderful Adult Education offerings, the Knights of Columbus Pancake and Porkie Breakfast, the Altar and Rosary Auction Boutique, Stewardship Weekend with a chili supper and coffee and donuts and sharing our food with thirty-two families at Thanksgiving to name just some of the ways that we have been together and reached out to others. How are we now giving thanks and preparing for Christmas? Let us take a moment to follow the path of God the Father who has prepared throughout all of the ages for our time on earth. We can follow that preparation throughout all of the Old Testament from the creation of the world to the mission of John the Baptist. This is where we pick up that preparation today. Quoting the words of the prophet Isaiah and preparing the Jewish people for the message of Jesus, John called for a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sin. God prepared for the birth of his Son by preserving Mary from original sin even from the moment of her conception and God sent his beloved Son to live among us to show us the way to his Father. Let us spend some quiet time each day in prayer, reading scripture, reaching out to one another and looking for ways to continue the good work that God has begun in us at Baptism that initiated a life-long process of growth that doesn t end until we stand before the Lord. We can begin by attending Mass for the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Patroness of the United States. Masses are Monday at 5:30 pm (Vigil), Tuesday, December 8, at 8:45am and 5:30 pm. WELCOME BACK, FATHER MARK! SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT PAGE 4 Diocesan Special Collections This weekend, we will have an opportunity to help St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Diocese, with a collection. As you know, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Green Bay is in 2018. A gift today will help the Cathedral be a beacon of hope to the faithful of the Diocese on that occasion and for the next 150 years. Next weekend, our parish will take a Retirement Collection. This will be to benefit two groups of people who have served us faithfully. We will have the opportunity to give to the National Retirement Fund for Religious, which helps our retired sisters, brothers and religious order priests. We also have an opportunity to give to the retirement needs of the senior priests in the Diocese of Green Bay. You may donate to both of these groups, or just to one. Please use the envelope provided. Advent Blessings Deck The Halls at St. Bernard Parish The church environment, whether it is flowers, trees, banners, candles, etc., is an ongoing ministry throughout the year.
