are homebound, in the hospital and nursing facilities; and CONFESSIONS Monday: 5:30 to 6:30pm Saturday: 9:30 to 10:30am Saturday: 3:00 to 3:45pm F F. W THANKSGIVING & EUCHARIST While we can be proud to live in the state that gave us the first Thanksgiving, this makes it even more important that we remember what was at the heart of that feast of the Pilgrims and Native Peoples a recognition of our need to give thanks to God for all that He does for us. While the Thanksgiving meal is often thought of as the main event of the day, as Catholics we recall that the most important thanksgiving meal happens at every Mass. The word eucharist literally means thanksgiving, and so I hope that you will come to our parish celebration of the Holy Eucharist the Mass on Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m. It will give us a chance not only to give thanks to God for all He does for us, but also to gather as a parish family of faith before we go to our own feasts. On that note, too, let s be attentive to those in our lives who might not have a place to go on Thanksgiving, and make sure that they have a seat at a table as well. Adoration will be suspended at 8:45 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, and resume following the 9 a.m. Mass on Friday. MARIAN MEDAL AWARD goes to Mark Hadley. I invite you to join us this Sunday, 19 November, at 3 p.m., at St. Mary s Cathedral in Fall River for the ceremony. FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS XAVIER This year the feast day of our patron, St. Francis Xavier, falls on the first Sunday of Advent. Therefore, we will be observing it a day earlier, on Saturday, 2 December, with Mass at 9 a.m. as usual. This year we re trying something new to augment our celebration. After Mass we will gather in the lower church for a pot-luck pastry gathering. Anyone who would like to prepare a small plate of baked goods is kindly invited to drop them off before Mass downstairs, where we will gather as a community after Mass. It should be a great time please mark your calendars! FROM ST. JOHN PAUL II As we gather with our families this time of year, the saint reminds us of the mission of every family: Since in God's plan it has been established as an "intimate community of life and love," the family has the mission to become more and more what it is, that is to say, a community of life and love, in an effort that will find fulfillment in the Kingdom of God. Looking at it in such a way as to reach its very roots, we must say that the essence and role of the family are specified by love. Hence the family has the mission to guard, reveal and communicate love, and this is a living reflection of and a real sharing in God's love for humanity and the love of Christ the Lord for the Church His bride.
