Feast of Saint Francis Xavier - December 3, 2017 The Process of recreating the Apostleship of Prayer Envisioning phase 2010-2014 December 2014 Approval of the recreation process by Pope Francis: A way with Jesus in apostolic availability Visualization and communication phase 2015-2017 2015 Launching of the Brand Manual 2016 Launching of the Pope Video and Click To Pray (new languages, visual and digital world) Deepening and consolidation phase 2017-2019 November 2017 launching of the third phase of refoundation, at the service of the parishes - The Way of the Heart as the way of formation for the mission - The way of the Heart as the School of prayer for the mission

2019 deepening of the spirituality of the Heart of Jesus at the service of the mission. This phase will conclude with the extraordinary missionary month convoked by Pope Francis in October 2019. Beginning in 2019, a phase of rereading and evaluation at the national and international levels of the nine years of the process of recreation. 2017-2019 We launch the third stage of recreation: at the service of the parishes and the mission (1) In the previous stage of recreation we have renewed and actualized our ecclesial service of prayer for the intentions of the Pope, recognized as challenges for humanity and for the mission of the Church. For this purpose we have launched The Pope Video and the prayer platform Click To Pray. This new stage will help us to deepen the recreation phases of the Apostleship of Prayer which began in 2014. We desire to awaken and renew our missionary spirit, characterized by a mission of compassion for the world. For this purpose we propose a spiritual itinerary of formation entitled The Way of the Heart, which is also a school of prayer because it prepares the heart for the mission. With this new phase we propose to actualize the intuition which has carried the Apostleship of Prayer since its origins. Be missionaries now by your prayer, by the offering of your daily life. Your mission is found here, in your studies and in the simple things of every day. Fulfilling it with availability to the will of God, you are already apostles who are helping the entire Church. Pray for the men and women you will meet tomorrow. Fr. Gautrelet on December 3, 1844. This proposal of prayer for daily life awakened and strengthened in them more each day their apostolic availability. It is a call to understand the mission to which prayer directs us is in daily life, in the simple actions of each day. Our objective: to offer the parishes a spiritual road to enter into the missionary dynamic of Evangelii Gaudium The Joy of the Gospel (#EG73) The Way of the Heart is the proposal of the PWWPN which builds upon, in a pedagogical manner, a missionary program that Pope Francis presents in Evangelii Gaudium. We propose to the parishes a way of formation and prayer to enter into the missionary dynamic which The Joy of the Gospel proposes: to form missionary disciples in daily life.

This phase will conclude with the extraordinary missionary month convoked by Pope Francis in October 2019. The Way of the Heart Has Two Dimensions The first is a school of prayer which brings us to contemplate the world with the eyes of Jesus, to become attuned with his sentiments, and to look on human beings with tenderness, compassion, and mercy. The second is a way of formation for the mission which leads us to a mission of compassion for the world. These two aspects submerge us in the interior dynamic of Evangelii Gaudium which calls us to be missionary disciples. The missionary impulse arises, not from our desires to help those who suffer and who need hope, but rather from a loving will which one has found with Jesus in the intimacy of prayer and who calls us to be his disciples. An evangelizing community gets involved by word and deed in people s daily lives; it bridges distances, it is willing to abase itself, if necessary, and it embraces human life, touching the suffering flesh of Christ in others. -- #24 Evangelii Gaudium The Way of the Heart has its source in the spiritual treasure which St. Ignatius of Loyola left to the Church: the Spiritual Exercises: this spiritual way is inscribed in the dynamic proposed by Evangelii Gaudium. 1.- A school of prayer which brings us to contemplate the world with the eyes of Jesus This school of prayer which we propose has deep roots in the spiritual tradition of the Church and teaches how to pray according to the style of the Way of the Heart, an apostolic prayer of intercession. We cannot be missionaries without prayer. As Pope Francis says: Spirit-filled evangelizers are evangelizers who pray and work (...) What is needed is the ability to cultivate an interior space which can give a Christian meaning to commitment and activity. Without prolonged moments of adoration, of prayerful encounter with the word, of sincere conversation with the Lord, our work easily becomes meaningless; we lose energy as a result of weariness and difficulties, and our fervour dies out. The Church urgently needs the deep breath of prayer ( ) Read Evangelii Gaudium #262.

Evangelii Gaudium speaks very clearly of the mission which he has confided to the Pope s Worldwide Prayer Network: the missionary power of intercession One form of prayer moves us particularly to take up the task of evangelization and to seek the good of others: it is the prayer of intercession. Let us peer for a moment into the heart of Saint Paul, to see what his prayer was like. It was full of people: I constantly pray with you in every one of my prayers for all of you because I hold you in my heart (Phil 1:4, 7). Here we see that intercessory prayer does not divert us from true contemplation, since authentic contemplation always has a place for others. #281 When evangelizers rise from prayer, their hearts are more open; freed of selfabsorption, they are desirous of doing good and sharing their lives with others. #282 The great men and women of God were great intercessors. Intercession is like a leaven in the heart of the Trinity. It is a way of penetrating the Father s heart and discovering new dimensions which can shed light on concrete situations and change them. We can say that God s heart is touched by our intercession, yet in reality he is always there first. What our intercession achieves is that his power, his love and his faithfulness are shown ever more clearly in the midst of the people. #283 To be of assistance in praying for the challenges to humanity and to the mission of the Church, expressed by the prayer intentions of the Pope, we propose the prayer platform Click To Pray that helps us connect ourselves with the world and with others. We will offer materials that can help at the parish level to propose a school of prayer of the Pope s Worldwide Prayer Network with helps the mission of the Church. 2 A way of formation that leads to a mission of compassion for the world The Way of the Heart is an itinerary which invites our heart to be nearer to the Heart of Jesus, to become configured to his sentiments, desires, and yearnings. It invites us to unite ourselves to the mission which he received from the Father. Being friends of Jesus, deeply united to Him, perceiving his joys and sufferings for the world, leads us to commit ourselves with Him to confront the challenges to humanity and to the mission of the Church. These are the challenges which the Pope confides to us each month and which lets us know concretely the mission of the Father confided to Jesus. The Way of the Heart helps us thereby to perceive the challenges of the world with the eyes of Jesus, to mobilize ourselves each month, docile to the

Holy Spirit, for prayer and service. This is how this itinerary transforms us more each day into apostles of prayer, missionary disciples, for a mission of compassion. In his time Jesus perceived certain situations in his social context which needed to be addressed. They were the challenges of his time. Jesus saw the need to dignify women, to receive those who were marginalized, to draw near to the poorest and the sick, manifesting that God is a merciful Father. Jesus not only saw these challenges but also made them visible to others and invited others to follow him along this way. Today, the Church, guided by the same spirit which led Jesus continues to see challenges in the world, makes these challenges visible through the prayer intentions of the Pope, and invites us to form a network of prayer and service of missionary disciples. The Pope, as head of the Church and of the Worldwide Prayer Network, makes visible the challenges of our time in the intentions which he confides in us each month. As Jesus, in order to give a response to these challenges, called others to the mission, today also in the Network we form a community of missionary disciples. Today it is Jesus who in his Church calls us to form a community of prayer and service in the face of the challenges of the world of today. This is the meaning and mission of the Pope s Worldwide Prayer Network. This world still lacks missionary disciples, apostles, to work towards the construction of the Kingdom of God and who transmit the experience of the love of the Father. The PWWPN is a community of missionary disciples that know how to see, without hereditary short-sightedness, looking at reality with the eyes and heart of Jesus, and only then judging. And who risk, act, and commit themselves. Pope Francis in Medellin 9/9/2017) The prayer intention of the Church offers us a framework for reflection to allow us to commit ourselves in depth to the challenge of the month. It is a horizon for the mission which helps us to seek, with others, ways to give a response, since the world is our common home. But there is still another aspect that has to do with the personal development of the disciple, with their interior world, with their daily relationships, with their manner of being persons, with their style of life. For example: the Church invites us to pray against the arms trade that favors wars. During the month we inform ourselves and we support associations and organizations that are mobilizing against these arms sales. This same prayer intention or challenge helps us to look at our own interior reality to ask ourselves or to reflect on our manner of building peace or of sowing division, of looking for opportunities for dialogue or firing off commentaries or gossip that destroy communion. We should not forget that the tongue can be a weapon. The Way of the heart opens us to a mission of compassion for the world, oriented towards the challenges of humanity and of the mission of the Church which expresses the intentions.

It is a program of evangelization which transforms the heart and that invites us to offer each day our life to the Lord. This program awakens our availability for the mission in our daily life. #EG27 GLOBAL STRATEGY The visualization and communication part of this recreation stage will be done by La Machi global strategy and communication. To move forward, in the parishes and ecclesial groups, in the pedagogical manner, the missionary spirit of Evangelii Gaudium, we propose the Way of the Heart as a school of prayer and way of formation for the mission. The forming of missionary disciples in daily life will be through the Way of the Heart, and the six missionary proposals: - Communities of the Pope s Worldwide Prayer Network - Eucharistic service - Open Chapel - Missionaries of the Pope Video - Parish missions and experiences of mission (walking and prayer, etc.) - Apostolic Itinerance The creativity and the materials of the Way of the Heart, our way of formation and prayer, will be done in cooperation with Tele Vid. This will entail, on the one hand, a proposal of the Way of the Heart which is presented as school of prayer which leads us to contemplate the world with the eyes of Jesus, and on the other hand, a way of formation that leads us to a mission of compassion for the world, following the interior dynamic of Evangelii Gaudium. We will arrange the creativity and communication of the 6 missionary proposals with La Machi. PRACTICAL PROCESS School of prayer of the Pope s Worldwide Prayer Network The school of prayer which we propose must reveal the entire spiritual treasure of the Church in regard to prayer, and must have its roots in the spiritual tradition of the Church, in particular the Eastern tradition (the Eastern lung of the Church. ) Orientations: We will use as basic material the book The ABC of Prayer of Frédérick Fornos, SJ (translated into French, Portuguese, Italian, and soon Spanish.) The presentation is concrete, simple, and

with exercises for daily life. It is a spiritual foundation which finds its source in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It will propose, besides the fundamental material, modules to discover the spiritual treasures of the Church. For example, praying with the Fathers of the Desert, praying with Teresa de Avila, praying with St. Benedict, etc., the silence of the heart or the ways of the heart, in the Philokalia, etc. These presentations will need to be simple and practical, so that they will help us to know our spiritual treasure and live it. The unifying dynamic will always be to deepen our personal relationship with Jesus Christ, through prayer, for a greater availability in daily life for the mission of Christ. This implies docility to the Spirit of the Lord. There can be modules with different degrees of difficulty, as are found in the book ABC of Prayer for those who are just being or for those who wish to go deeper. The proposal of the School of Prayer for the parishes must be very simple, practical, and easy to use so that a parish animator can make good use of it. In a creative way, we are thinking about the best ways to offer this proposal to the parishes: digital kits, videos, apps, books, etc. It will be good to ask for feedback from parish priests and ministry and teams. Click To Pray will be the platform of our prayer formation, which supports our parish schools of prayer. We will need to articulate this work with Machi, so that the platform can continue to support the School of Prayer. PRACTICAL PROCESS The Way of the Heart is also a way of formation which prepares us for a mission of compassion for the world. The proposal for each one of the new stages needs to present, with a very simple and practical style, the diverse aspects of each stage: biblical, understanding of the faith, pastoral, prayer, etc. On one hand, we need training material for the formators of the Way of the Heart in each parish. On the other hand, we need material for the participants. For example: the stage unfolds during the month for a daily deepening. We have two documents written on the Way of the Heart which comment on the official itinerary and which indicate its orientation and interior dynamic: one is by Javier Rojas, SJ, and the other by me. The full content for each of the nine steps is being written and we will finish all nine (with their biblical introductions, understanding of the faith, etc.) by the end of January.

On the creative side we are thinking about ways of offering this way of formation for the mission in the parishes, to enter into the missionary dynamic of Evangelii Gaudium The Joy of the Gospel. For example: digital kits, videos, apps, books, etc. Feast of Saint Francis Xavier December 3, 2017 Fr.
