ADULT ENRICHMENT CLASS Sunday mornings at 11:30 Classes are held Sunday mornings immediately following the worship service. Classes typically run 3-6 weeks and feature different topics and leaders. Sunday, June 10th Do you want to know more about Trinity? Have you ever wondered, What is a Methodist, anyway? Maybe you are interested in becoming a member of Trinity UMC. If any of these questions sound familiar, come to an inquirer s class after service Sunday, June 10th. Sundays, May 20 & 27 (Postponed & condensed from April) In this class we ll get an overview of creation spirituality as it has been developed over the last 50 years especially by Rev. Matthew Fox. Have you heard of the Coming of the Cosmic Christ? Have you felt stirrings of The Order of the Sacred Earth? Or perhaps, even, have you seen glimpses of The Hidden Spirituality of Men? Those are the titles of three of Matthew Fox s books that we ll explore in brief with leadership from Rev. Mike Eggleston. Mondays at 6:30pm Tuesdays at 3:30pm The discussion for Season 2 of the Monday night group will be a look at Leadership in 1 Samuel. We ll look at some of the leadership archetypes put forth in selected passages and discuss some modern-day equivalents. For questions regarding anything, including driving directions, email Jeff Manildi at jeff@trinitylososos.org. The Tuesday afternoon group will dig into the New Testament book of Galatians during Season 2. Galatians is one of our earliest writings of the early Christians, predating the four gospels or Revelation or Romans or any of the hidden writings or even any shreds of first century texts that archaeologists might dig up. But Galatians is not Paul playing nice. Paul s angry, passionate letter... is the first four words of the NIB commentary on Galatians. Yet Galatians has long been one of the most influential books of the New Testament. For questions regarding anything, including driving directions, email Mike Eggleston at egglestonm@hotmail.com.

Music Notes In a recent article, "Consumer Reports" magazine tells of the health benefits of singing in a low-pressure, no-auditionrequired choir. Trinity just happens to have such a group! Research in the U.K. reveals that singing in an amateur choir increased happiness and aided recovery from mental-health problems. Participants in the study reported feelings of belonging, well-being, and confidence after each singing session. As the saying goes, "try it; you might like it." We'd love to welcome you in our choir! United Methodist Women s History Note: TRINITY UNITED METHODIST WOMEN UMW has traditionally supported the youth at Trinity, contributing each year to their programs in addition to providing funds to send youth to special events. Trinity s first college scholarships were funded and distributed by UMW. The awarding of scholarships later became part of the church s ministries but UMW continues to contribute to the fund. Trinity s Heritage Quilters were major contributors to the scholarship program, donating half their proceeds to the fund. May Schedule WOMEN OF THE BIBLE CIRCLE: Thursday, May 10 at 2:00 P.M. Colleen Powers is hostess this month. All women of the church are welcome. For more information call Alta Hall at 528-2021. UMW EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING: Monday, May 14 at 1:00 in the Social Hall. All interested members are welcome. BOOK CLUB: Thursday, May 17 at 2:00 in the Social Hall. The book club does not discuss any one book, but participants share books they have read. Contact person is Donna Asire at 528-0342 for more information. Layette Project In May, United Methodist Women will conduct their annual Layette Project. For many years, we have collected layette items which are then donated to the SLO County Health Department to be distributed to local low-income mothers and their infants. A table will be set up in the social hall to receive donations. We appreciate all the support given to this project in the past and the recipients are always grateful. Suggested Donations: Layette Items: infant clothing (up to age 2), blankets, bibs, towels - new or gently used. Disposable diapers. Baby Toiletries: shampoo, powder, lotion, wipes Toys: Rattles, books, soft stuffed animals

Council members agreed that the small amount of sterilized water used in the church dishwasher is a greener trade-off. We will use whatever disposable coffee cups and plastic utensils are on hand, but won t purchase more, and will ask all users of our facility not to leave such items. (Currently they just appear ). 2018 Phone Directories are available on the Information Cart in the narthex. The Trustees of Trinity UMC are the caretakers for all of the buildings and grounds owned by the church. They oversee all of the maintenance and upkeep. In 2017 the Trustees arranged for the painting of the Pine Street side of the church, the re-paving of the parking lot, and they began the process of creating new signage around the church. Take a moment to say hello and learn more about the Trustees Committee as they provide the snacks and coffee this month. VILLAGE CHILDREN S CENTER Music Studio Recitals Several local music teachers bring their students to Trinity for their end of the year recitals. Students perform for their families using our wonderful grand piano. The sanctuary and social hall will be in use for these concerts on the following dates in May: May 6 Marian Kaser Piano Studio May 26 Kim Naylor s Piano Recital May 27 Lynn Robinett Piano Party As we mentioned last month, the playground received some much-needed upgrades over Spring break. The small play area where our youngest students play was improved by the addition of pavers to enlarge the trike riding area. Thank you to Crizer Construction for providing the labor for the project. There is also a new purple caterpillar in the small yard for the children to climb through. Memorial Day Monday, May 28 The church office will be closed to observe Memorial Day. The large play yard has a new deck area for reading and playing. This attractive deck covers the area under the first big tree in the play yard. It covers and protects the roots of the tree while providing a safe area for the children to sit and read or play. Thank you to American Sliding Door in Los Osos for their work on this project. GROW OUR GIVING Little Churches On April 15, Trinity UMC launched our project of Little Church Giving (our Grow our Giving Task Force got the idea from the First UMC of SLO.) Here s How it Works 1. Take home a little church offering box. 2. Write your full name on the bottom. 3. Place the little church where you will notice it at home (like a kitchen table, bedside stand, dresser, etc.) 4. Empty change (cash welcome too!) from your pockets into the slot on top. 5. On the first Sunday of each month, return your little church to Trinity s narthex with whatever it holds, switch it for a fresh one. Write your full name on the new one. 6. We will keep track of all little church donations by donor s name. Your little church donations will be reported on your quarterly statements. Your previous box (now empty) with your name will be available to pick up on first the first Sunday each month in our narthex. Repeat the process! The first date to turn in you little churches is Sunday, May 6. Beth Crizer will be collecting them after church and will give you a new one. Little Churches will only be collected on first Sundays. If you forget to bring it one month, just keep filling it until the next month. Proceeds from the Little Churches will be added to the General Fund to meet our budget requirements. Keep an eye on the bulletin board in the Social Hall to see how much has been collected.
