THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT Page 2 March 4, 2018 SCHOOL MINISTRY NEWS Last weekend six of our teams went to the state robotics championships in Ellensburg. All of our teams proudly represented our community, with two teams being awarded invitations to the world championships and a third team coming tantalizingly close! Gigi Mummery, Georgia Legere, and Elin Kueber won the Engineering Design Award in the elementary design, and Gordon McDowall, Sean McDowall, Conor Rich, and Quinn Yonemitsu won the Excellence Award in the elementary division. Matthew Abadir, Colin Shearer, and Logan Yonemitsu came within 3 points of second place in the teamwork challenge. As with any of our teams, none of this could have been accomplished by the strong work of the coaches. A special shout-out to our own 8th grader, James Larkin, who has worked with the team throughout the year sharing his experience. Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered and supported the program throughout the year, especially Chris Legere and Lisa Vargo, who dedicated themselves to the program throughout the season. Ms. Legere was recognized as the Teacher of the Year at the state championships. Go Falcons CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC). Funds from this collection help provide food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and bring Christ s love and mercy to all people here at home and abroad. In our efforts to protect our vulnerable population, the Archdiocese of Seattle has integrated abuse prevention material into our faith formation and youth ministry curriculum in the context of teaching our youth about our Catholic faith. In creating a safe space for our youth, we can teach and show them the ways of Christ in a safe environment conducive to learning. Keeping our minors and vulnerable adult s safe starts with you. We ask that you take part in this effort in extending the Archbishop s effort to help evangelize our youth in a safe space. To help you understand what your youth will be offered, we ask you to visit: http:// www.seattlearchdiocese.org/sep/ faithformation.aspx. This will provide you with Parent/ Guardian Resources, to inform you about the curriculum being used while also making available the actual lessons. As the guardian, you have the right to opt your child/ youth out of this lesson. You may do so by clicking on the link Opting Out. You will need to file this form with your Catechetical Leader. THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT Page 5 March 4, 2018

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT Page 6 March 4, 2018 Cup Cup Beginning this Saturday, March 3rd, we will implement some changes to Communion locations. There will be four stations for the Precious Body of Christ. Those wishing to receive the Precious Blood of Christ will have two stations one on each side of the Sanctuary near the Tabernacle and the other near the organ. If receiving from the chalice, please process in the direction of the red arrows on the diagram and proceed around the congregation before returning to your pew. Ushers will be present to direct the flow of the procession. Those unable to process will receive the Precious Body from a roving minister. This change to two cups from four is due to too few Eucharistic Minister volunteers. It takes time to adapt to new procedures. Thank you for your patience.
