PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP CHIMES GREETING The Lord be with you. And also with you. PRELUDE Variations on a French Noel D Aquin CALL TO WORSHIP O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! HYMN 134 Joy to the World PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty God, you provide for us with such care. You supply the earth, our food, the air we breathe. But we forget to thank you, we forget to praise you. While you show compassion toward us, we sometimes fail to show compassion to others. As we enter this new year, guide us to praise you. Open our eyes to the needs of those around us, remind us to care for others. Amen. (Silent Prayer) Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS Friends, believe the good news. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. RESPONSE Hymn 698 Take, O take me as I am; summon out what I shall be; set your seal upon my heart and live in me. PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION LESSON Hebrews 2:10-18 p. 971 N.T. Word of God, Word of life. Thanks be to God! CONVERSATION WITH CHILDREN ANTHEM The Earth is the Lord s White LESSON Genesis 1:1-2:4a p. 1 O.T. Word of God, Word of life. Thanks be to God! HYMN 26 Earth and All Stars! AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Apostles Creed PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. OFFERING OFFERTORY Fairest Lord Jesus arr.
