09-30-2018 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Numbers 11:25-29 James 5:1-6 Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don Like Moses before him, Jesus wants God s healing power to be shared by as many as possible. In today s Gospel, when a disciple complains about a man who is healing in Jesus name but is not one of their company, Jesus assures him, Anyone who is not against us is with us. Rooted in this perspective of Jesus, we as Catholics, see any authentically good deed performed by believers and nonbelievers alike as manifestations of God s love in the world. Doing good is not restricted to an exclusive few. Giving good example to the little ones or those of simple faith will be rewarded. Likewise, anyone who leads them astray deserves punishment. This week I ask you to spend some time reflecting on this passage. Discern how you can be Christ s hands and feet to all those you encounter, especially those who are in need. Concentrate on how the activity of your body can manifest God s love in the world. Determine how you support those who serve in Jesus name. Together with your family, decide how you can help make God s reign more visible to others.
