Second Congregational UCC FACEBOOK: Second Congregational UCC, Grand Rapids Of course it had to be the coldest week that we have had so far this winter. Monday the 11th, brought Hurst Mechanical in to tear down the boiler and repair it. Art and Rick were there to greet them and show them around. So while they went through the building putting electric heaters next to water pipes and bathrooms, closing draperies and blinds, etc., the repair guys started to work. There were extension cords running down hallways, doors closed that were normally open. And an eerie quiet to the building as all the good noise was coming from the boiler room. Tuesday brought the staff to work. The offices were warmed with the heaters and a salute to them as they went to work in abnormal circumstances. The good news from the boiler repair guys was that the chambers were in good shape. The gaskets connecting them needed to be replaced. A less costly adventure for us! By Thursday, the repair guys announced that the boiler was able to hold water for over two hours. Time to put her back together! On Friday, the boiler was back together and tested. By this time we had realized that the Sanctuary was down to 53 degrees. The boiler was fired up and it was a go! Yay! The Sanctuary warmed up 10 degrees within two hours. By Sunday it was toasty! A thank you to Art and Rick for coming to check on the building and progress at least twice a day the weeks before and the week of repairs. To Hurst for making us toasty again, and to our staff for working through it all. And to all who loaned heaters for us to use. ---The Property Board

CHRISTMAS MUSIC... A great big, heartfelt THANK YOU! to all who participated in and helped with Carols by Candlelight!
