We have been asked by our Supreme Council to Build the Domestic Church They have given us the necessary tools in order to accomplish the goal. The Knights of Columbus offers men a place to lead their families and communities in faith and service and put their Faith into Action. We know that we cannot do all of this at once but this is the program that empowers Knights to come together to share faith, celebrate fraternity with loved ones, and do what they do best stand shoulder to shoulder in service to the community and to defend life at all stages in every condition. Listed below are the four areas of the Faith in Action Program along with some of the programs that we would like to implement but can only do so with your help. If you are a Knight, please join us at our meetings. If you would like to become a Knight please stop by the information desk in the Narthex of the Church or email kofc7091@saintmcc.com and someone will contact you. FAITH FORMATION The 2018-2019 Faith Formation Year is about to begin. Please take a look at all the opportunities we have for you to grow your faith. Adult Faith Formation Adult Sunday School: The Turning Point Join us on Sunday mornings from 9:15 till 10:15 as we delve into our faith. We kick off our Adult Sunday School program with Turning Point, a 9-week study on the Gospel of John. It s Not Your Typical Bible Study. The Turning Point won t just teach you how to understand the Bible better. Through engaging videos, a thought-provoking workbook, and an edition of the Gospel of John that reads like your favorite chapter book, this unique nine-week study will help you develop a meaningful relationship with Jesus. And it's perfect for small groups. Invite a few of your family members or friends to journey through The Turning Point with you. Cost is $20 for the materials. Alpha Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically runs over eleven weeks, with a retreat mid-way through the course. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome. All parishioners are encouraged to attend Alpha at least once and are encouraged to invite friends and family members to attend. This year we will have two sessions of Alpha. The first is from Noon until 1 at Regenerations on Mondays starting September 17th. The Second is Tuesday Nights at 6:30pm in the Parish Center starting September 18th. There is no cost however donation is asked to cover the cost of the retreat and for the meals provided. Bible Study: Psalms Psalms: The School of Prayer, is a Bible study that will allow you to make the Bible personal. While the historical books of the Bible recount God's creative and redemptive acts in history, the Psalms reveal Israel's response to God's covenant offer and serve as a model for our response to Him. Indeed, one could say that the historical books tell the "outside" of the story of Israel by giving an historical perspective, while the Psalms tell the "inside" story, which comes from the deeply personal perspective of one who is seeking God. Our communication with God is enhanced by a deeper understanding of the book of Psalms and of the individual psalms that reside in each of our hearts. Cost is $30 for materials. Classes begin September 20th with a session at 10am and a session at 6pm. Financial Peace University Financial Peace University is a nine-lesson, money-management class taught by America's most trusted financial guru, Dave Ramsey. Dave and his teaching team will walk you through the basics of budgeting, dumping debt, planning for the future, and much more. Cost is $100 for materials and classes start on September 18 th at 6:30 p.m. Family Faith Formation Sunday School (K-5) Sunday School for grades Kindergarten through 5th will be held on Sunday mornings from 9:15am until 10:15am in the Parish Center. Elementary Students preparing to receive First Holy Communion must attend Sunday School. Parents must attend the Adult Sunday School Class. No child may be dropped off with no parent present. For more information please pick up a Family Faith Formation Handbook from the Narthex Desk or the Parish Office. Joy & Devotion (Middle School and High School Faith Formation) Wednesday night will be dedicated to Middle and High School Students starting at 6pm in the Church with Joy & Devotion. Joy & Devotion focuses on small group mentorship to develop and mature the teens discipleships. This year we will focus on developing their relationship and understanding of Jesus and God the Father. Through that understanding they can understand themselves and how to be disciples of Jesus. For more information please pick up a Family Faith Formation Handbook from the Narthex Desk or the Parish Office. Sacramental Prep & Courses: These courses are designed to prepare a person to receive that sacrament. Baptism Prep and Requirements: If you are currently expecting a child or recently had one please schedule a meeting with Richard to get the full requirements to have your child baptized at St Matthews. All parents wishing to baptize their child here must be registered parishioners of St Matthews, have Godparents who are Catholics in Good Standing, and attend Reborn. In three engaging sessions, Reborn explores the deeply personal and sacred relevancy of Baptism for Parents, Godparents and, most importantly, the Baptized. With a step-bystep explanation of the rite itself, including its profound place in Scripture and Tradition, Reborn shows how baptism reveals the heart of God s love for His children. Baptism dates are not set until all requirements are met and all classes taken. If your child is above the age of 8, they are treated as adults and go through a different process to be Baptized. Please schedule an appointment with Richard to explain fully. First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Prep: Starting in January those preparing for First Communion will be separated into a separate class to receive formal catechesis about First Reconciliation and First Communion. Parents will attend a separate class on Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Those enrolled in First Communion Prep must attend Sunday School starting in September. Attendance for both Parents and Children is mandatory for all classes. For more information please pick up a Family Faith Formation Handbook from the Narthex Desk or the Parish Office. Confirmation 2019 Prep: Those in the eighth grade and above may begin preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our Confirmation Prep program is designed to develop disciples of Christ. Confirmation is not the exit rite or the graduation rite of the Catholic Church it is only the beginning of a long lasting relationship with Christ and his bride the Church. So our program is based on the four pillars of faith formation; intellectual, pastoral, spiritual, and human development. The Confirmation Prep program is year long and begins in August 2018 and last until September 2019. THERE IS NO SUM- MER BREAK! Classes will meet on Wednesday in the Church at 6pm. In addition, all that are in preparation for Confirmation are required to serve as altar servers. Students are also expected to attend Testimony, Adoration, and Benediction Nights. Finally, all in Confirmation Prep are expected to participate in one St Matthew sponsored retreat. Attendance of all classes, participation as an altar server, and attending the sponsored retreat are all mandatory. For more information please pick up a Family Faith Formation Handbook from the Narthex Desk or the Parish Office.

With the start of the new school year and change of seasons, it is a great time to revisit your weekly schedules and decide how you will commit to your parishes call to ministry. Joining the Music Ministry this Fall will allow you time to get used to the routine of volunteering before the busy holidays set in. Being a dedicated and committed part of the Music Ministry has many benefits. Music making is healthy for the mind, body and spirit. You will have the opportunity to learn a new craft, or to practice and improve your talents. You will make good, lasting friendships, and strengthen your faith. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to serve God and your parish family, truly following our Lord s call to be and make disciples. Again, if you are interested in joining or learning more about our Music Ministry, the first step is to contact our Music Director, Lee Rutan 863-324-3040, ext. 15 (or) lrutan@saintmcc.com. We look forward to welcoming back all our past and current members. If you are looking to join as a new member, be sure to give Lee Rutan a call at 863-324-3040, ext. 15, or email at Lrutan@saintmcc.com. Adult Choir Tuesday Sept. 4th 7:00 PM in the chapel. The Adult Choir is open to everyone, High school age or older, without audition, and is the backbone of our Music Ministry. Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM in the Chapel. This choir sings at one Mass every weekend, rotating through the 4:00 PM (Sat.), 8:00 AM, and 10:30 AM Masses on Sundays. We also sing for all Holy Days, and special parish events. Our repertoire ranges from traditional to contemporary. Rehearsals are dedicated to learning part singing, (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) good vocal technics, musicianship, and understanding the role of the Music Ministry in Liturgy. Instrumentalists are also welcome. Adult Choir members are also invited to join our Resurrection Choir which sings for funerals. Junior Choir Tuesday, Sept. 18th 5:30 PM in the chapel Parents are invited to attend. This choir is open to all children in grades 3 6. Rehearsals are every Tuesday afternoon from 5:30 6:30 PM. Our Junior Choir program is designed to prepare our young people to become true Music Ministers, and they are trained in the same manner as the Adult Choir, but with ageappropriate music from traditional and contemporary repertoires. The Junior Choir sings at least once a month, as well as at Christmas, Easter, and First Holy Communion liturgies. Junior Choir members also get cantor training, liturgy basics, a deeper understanding of our faith, and appreciation of ministry through service. Rock & Rejoice Monday, Sept. 10th 6:30 PM in the church. Our teen praise band is already three years old! It is open to musically talented youths in grades 7-12. Rock and Rejoice provides music leadership for Faith Formation on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM. They will also help provide music for the 5:00 PM Masses on the 2 nd and 4 th Sunday of every month. This year, we are looking to expand our ministry to sing on alternate weeks at the 10:30 AM Masses as well! The primary repertoire will consist of contemporary music, but other styles and genres will be embraced when required for liturgy. Instrumentalists as well as vocalists are encouraged to join. We are especially looking for drummers and guitar players. Parental participation is an important part of the success of any youth group. Parents help their children keep their commitments, attend all rehearsals and Masses, and they may also help supervise rehearsals.
St. Matthew Columbarium Canon Law, Code 1240 Where possible, the Church is to have its own cemeteries or at least areas in civil cemeteries that are designated for the deceased members of the faithful and properly blessed. If this cannot be achieved, however, then individual graves are to be properly blessed. Benefits of our Parish Columbarium located on our church grounds. Perpetual Care: The Code of Canon Law requires the Catholic Church to perpetually maintain its places of burial. Care will always be assured. Security: Proximity on constantly occupied, well-lighted Church grounds assures optimum security. Convenience: With your final resting place here on the Church grounds, your family and friends and all those attending Mass will find it convenient to visit and pay their respects. Serenity: Our columbarium fits perfectly into existing and planned future construction, offering a serene, peaceful environment for meditation and quiet reflection. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES We invite everyone to consider sharing their time and talents within the St. Matthew community. It is a wonderful way to get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ. Administration Worship Formation Pastoral Care Rely on the time, talents and financial resources of our generous parishioners to carry out our parish mission of Making Disciples. Office Volunteer Our committed and busy parish staff appreciate some helping hands. Parishioners volunteer their time assisting with a variety of business office related tasks as needed. From answering the phone, greeting visitors, data entry, etc you are only asked to do as much as you are comfortable with. It s always much nicer to have someone answer a phone than it is for the caller to receive a recorded message. Gift Shop & Thrift Shop During the summer months we are in great need of help at our Downtown Gift Shop and Thrift Shop. They are open Monday through Saturday. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Any amount of time that you are able to give to help the Mission of our Parish will be greatly appreciated. The way for us to Make Disciples for Christ is for us to Be Disciples for Christ. We invite you to join us in putting into action the Gospel passage of Mt. 25:35 Every Sunday and Thursday, members of our parish community gather together in the parking lot of our Thrift & Gift Shop at 197 West Central Ave, Winter Haven, to serve the food that has been prepared by other volunteers of our ministry, to welcome the stranger, feed them and quench their thirst. Cooked meals are prepared in advance in our parish kitchen while non perishable bagged foods are prepared at our Matthew 25:35 office connected to our Thrift and Gift Shops. Our Mt. 25:35 Ministry also prepares cooked meals throughout the week that we send to The Mission downtown Winter Haven, to feed those who are in need. The Corner of West Central and 2nd Street downtown Winter Haven has truly become The Disciples Corner We invite you to join us at downtown Disciples Corner, (aka Regenerations) and experience Mt. 25:35 come to life.
