Up Coming Events in Howard, PA For Sept., Oct., Nov. 2018 Hello! I m Craig Rose, the pastor of Howard United Methodist Church, and we thought an All-Community Free Newsletter would be good for Howard; to help everyone know what is going on! This is only a beginning so please excuse our mistakes, we hope to grow it bigger and better! Please let us know about any events happening in the Spring, so we can get the word out with our next edition, AND, if you are not on our mailing list and would like to be, please let us know! Howard United Methodist Church A Home for All, With Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors P.O. Box 257, Howard, PA 16841 Office: 814/625-2362 Email us at: howardumc@susumc.org Visit us on the Web at: http://howardum.org Sunday Worship- 9 AM Sunday School- 10:15AM Howard United Methodist Church News: (144 West Main St., Howard) Weekly Tuesday Coffee Time: Please join us in our Fellowship Hall for that second cup of coffee on Tuesdays between 9:30 and 11:00 AM. We have donuts and other snacks (even some healthy ones!). Always interesting discussions, with some people from the community and some from our church. Also, you can get a chair massage from Seth Woodring, certified massage therapist, only $10 for 10 minutes- a little relief for an aching back! Sunday, September 9 th - Church in the Park. West End Park, in Howard; at 9:00 AM. Dress casual. We ll sing some hymns, pray a little, and then have some brunch. Please bring table settings, drinks, and a dish to pass! (No service at the church that morning).

Women s Dancing Exercise Class: Country Heat Live! Monday nights, 6:30-7:15 PM, starting Sept. 10th, in Howard UMC s Fellowship Hall! For ladies 3 to 93! Only $5 per class! (Or 6 classes for $25) If you have any questions, contact the instructor Samantha Gray at (814) 441-7255 or at graycefullyfit@icloud.com THREE REASONS TO JOIN A YOGA CLASS 1. Take care of YOU first- The problem with not taking care of ourselves is sooner or later we won t be of much use to anyone else or to ourselves. 2. Yoga is excellent for bone health - Osteoporosis and low bone mass are very common in people as they age, and 80% of women. The good news is you can slow, and possibly even reverse, bone loss by engaging in weightbearing exercise. Yoga is a great weight-bearing activity that doesn t put stress on your joints and lengthens muscles. 3. Yoga is an incredible stress reliever - Stress reduction is one of the most commonly cited benefits of yoga. The stretching, breathing, mindfulness, and sense of community all contribute to a sense of wellbeing in today s world where many people especially women feel overscheduled and under-supported Where: Fellowship Hall, Howard UMC, 144 W. Main Street *When: Tuesdays, beginning September 11, 2018 Time: 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. Cost: $10/class GUIDELINES: Come with an empty stomach best to not eat for two hours before class Wear loose fitting comfortable clothes Bring: Socks and a light blanket or throw for warmth during deep relaxation; a yoga mat (if possible) By arriving 10-15 minutes early; sit or lie down quietly to promote a calm, meditative atmosphere *if you have any questions, please contact Kathie Baughman at 814-625- 2852 or e-mail kathieb1@comcast.net

Other News: SISTERS AGAINST CANCER The third annual Sisters Against Cancer/No One Fights Alone 5k Run/Walk will be held in Howard on Oct. 6. The event will draw awareness to the BRCA gene and raise funds to help others in memory of four sisters who fought long battles against cancer. Faye Garis, Mary Lomison, Darlene Boone and Dottie Butts all carried the BRCA2 hereditary cancer gene that causes higher risks of breast and ovarian cancers and each of the sisters eventually died from the dreaded cancer. Their families have joined together to support others in the Centre and Clinton County areas who may be going through the same situation. Contact Tina Lomison at 814-280-7333 for more sponsorship information or to register for the upcoming event.
