Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church 315 Winchester Road Huntsville, AL 35811 Volume 14, Issue 7 July 2017 Speaking the Truth in Love...but speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head - Christ Ephesians 4:15 The Herald is a monthly publication of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Members are encouraged to submit all newsworthy articles by the 20th of the month to newsletter@unionchapel-hsv.org. All articles are subject to editing for clarity and grammatical correctness.

We who are born again know that the salvation of Jesus Christ is available to all who would accept him as their personal Savior. There is no salvation for the human soul apart from Jesus Christ. The Bible clearly teaches there is no other name under the heavens by which one can be saved except the name of Jesus. Salvation comes by the blood of Christ only (Acts 4:12). Brothers and sisters, we look for meaning and fulfillment in life by seeking various lifestyles. We seek pleasure, riches, knowledge and many other things in an attempt to fill the void in our lives. We would do well to heed the words of wise King Solomon. He tells us in the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes 2:4-6: I made me great works; I built me houses; I planted me vineyards; I made me gardens and orchards and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruits; I made me From the Pastor s Pen Salvation pools of water to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees. However, in the end Solomon found out that it was all vanity (Ecclesiastes 12). He goes on to tell us that we should fear God and keep His commandments for it is our duty to do so (Ecclesiastes 12:13). In the last verse of this book we see that everything we do will be judged by the Lord - the good and the evil (Ecclesiastes 12:14). Salvation is the only way we can be sure that we are safe from the wrath of God. So, if you are not saved, accept Him today! If you are saved bathe in His joy, peace and love. 2

Moving mountains - Mark 11:20-26. Mountain-size obstacles are part of living in a fallen world. They come in all forms - financial struggles, relational frustrations, health issues, and any number of other situations. Jesus said we would have trouble in this life; it s unavoidable. However, there is hope because He has overcome the world (John 16:33). When our problems seem overwhelming, Jesus tells us to have faith in God and pray. Today s passage is well loved because it seems like a blanket promise for whatever we want: Verse 24 sounds as if all we have to do is believe and we ll receive what we request, and it will be granted. However, this scripture cannot stand alone, apart from the rest of the Bible. So let s consider two qualifications for this promise. God is committed to removing only those obstacles that are hindrances to His will. Jesus is our primary example for this Wisdom to Live By Wellness News truth. When He faced the prospect of dying on a cross as the sin-bearer for mankind, it could have seemed like a mountain that needed to be removed, but His prayers were governed by these words: Yet not My will, but Yours be done (Luke 22:42). We must also make sure that we are not the obstacle standing in God s way. Jesus points out in Mark 11:25-26 that an unforgiving spirit breaks our fellowship with God, thereby hindering our prayers. In fact, any sin we tolerate becomes a barrier between us and the Lord. Our first reaction to obstacles should be self-examination. Ask God, Is there sin in my life? Do my requests align with Your will? Only then can we confidently ask Him to move our mountains. ~Dr. Charles Stanley The multitasking myth is a seductive one: Scanning news headlines, writing a report for work, paying bills on your banking app, texting your sister, checking email - it s easy to bounce from one to the other and convince yourself you re getting so much done. In truth, multitasking is the very opposite of efficient. Research has shown that multitasking reduces productivity by up to 40 percent, and a new study explains why. Using a special type of scan, researchers recently looked at the brain activity of a group of people watching movies. When they watched 6 ½-minute segments, areas of the brain that synthesize separate events into a cohesive whole worked well. When the movies were fragmented into 50- second segments, these areas functioned poorly. In other words, your brain works better when you tackle one thing at a time! In our hyper-connected world, it takes discipline to break the multitasking habit, but give it a try for a few days - or even a few hours - and see how you feel. Rather than trying to juggle workrelated tasks with checking email and news, or grocery shopping and talking on the phone, or eating lunch while texting friends, do one thing at a time. Be patient with yourself, and think of it like rebuilding a muscle - your attention muscle. If you hear a faint cheer, that s your brain shouting, hooray! ~Cleveland Clinic Wellness 4

Just a Thought... A good leader is humble. We ve seen countless prominent examples of Proverbs 16:18: Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. From politicians and celebrities to CEOs and pastors, many have grabbed headlines as their empires have fallen. In most of these cases, it s pride that has crept in. They thought themselves invincible, but quickly found out that no one is. It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud (Proverbs 16:19). ~Brent Rinehart (Crosswalk.com) 7
