All Saints' Sunday Worship Services November 1, 2015 8:30 and 11 a.m. 6:30 p.m. 1
Welcome We are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today. To Our Guests, We especially welcome you today! More information about today s worship service can be found on page 19 of this bulletin. All Saints Day Today we observe All Saints Day. Scripture reveals that there is spiritual and everlasting oneness in the true Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, a oneness that transcends death. Thus, the Church is comprised of the elect of God those already in heaven, those on earth who are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and those who are yet to come to saving faith. We remember those of First Presbyterian Church who have died since All Saints Day 2014: Neal Mann...January 1, 2015 Belvia Payne... February 9, 2015 Alex MacDonell...March 29, 2015 Chase Duggan...August 13, 2015 Bill Sofge...August 24, 2015 Jim Brady...October 4, 2015 Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God with thanksgiving to Jesus who said, I am the resurrection and the life; all who believe in me, though they die, yet shall they live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. As stewards of God s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service. 2
The Morning Services Theme: The Coming Kingdom ( Indicates the congregation standing) (*Ushers may seat worshipers at this time) The Prelude Sheep May Safely Graze...J.S. Bach *Welcome and Announcements... Rev. John Franks The Meditation Search Me, O God...Hopkins and Berg Canterbury Choir Mallory Sides, director; Julie Blakey, piano Search me, O God, and know my heart today. Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray. See if there be some wicked way in me. Cleanse me from every sin and set me free. I praise you Lord, for cleansing me from sin. Fulfill your word and make me pure within. Fill me with fire where once I burned with shame. Grant my desire to call upon your name. O Holy Spirit, revival comes from you! Send a revival, my own heart renew. Your word declares you will supply our need. For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead. Lord, take my life, for I would live for you. Fill my poor heart with your great love so true. Take all my will, my passion, self, and pride. I now surrender, Lord in me abide. Words: J. Edwin Orr Music: Edward J. Hopkins Arranged: Ken Berg 2011 Choristers Guild The Call to Worship... from Hebrews 12:1-2; 28-29 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us worship God! 3

The Confession of Faith... Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *suffered separation from God **universal Gloria Patri... St. Peter The Old Testament Lesson...Isaiah 11:1-10 page 1076 in the pew Bible The Response The grass withers and the flowers fall, But the Word of our God stands forever. 5
The Personal Confession of Sin (Please kneel if able to do so) The Corporate Confession of Sin Father in Heaven, you are the covenant keeping God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and you are our God, too. Although we acknowledge your great faithfulness to us and to all the saints who have gone before us, we admit that we are often faithless. We doubt your wisdom, power, goodness and love. We confess to you that although we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, we are weak-hearted and cowardly. We have not taken up our cross to follow you, but instead have chosen the way of ease, comfort and security. According to your mercy, forgive our cold, apathetic, selfish hearts. Pour out your grace upon us that we might live lives worthy of the calling we have received. Teach us the joy of losing our lives for your gospel and work in us that apostolic mind that counts it a joy to suffer for the Name. Preserve us by your grace that we might endure to the end and join the heavenly throng in the eternal worship and enjoyment of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. The Assurance of Pardoning Grace...from 1 Peter 2:24-25 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. 6

Evening Prayers Offertory Whate er My God Ordains Is Right...Rodigast, Bourque Whate er my God ordains is right: His holy will abideth; I will be still whate er he doth; And follow where he guideth. He is my God: though dark my road. He holds me that I shall not fall. And so to him I leave it all, He holds me that I shall not fall. Whate er my God ordains is right: He never will deceive me. He leads me by the proper path; I know he will not leave me. I take, content, what he hath sent. His hand can turn my griefs away, And patiently I wait his day, His hand can turn my griefs away. Whate er my God ordains is right, Though now this cup I m drinking, May bitter seem to my faint heart, I take it all, unshrinking. My God is true; each morn anew. Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart, And pain and sorrow shall depart, Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart. Whate er my God ordains is right. Here shall my stand be taken. Though sorrow, need, or death be mine, Yet I am not forsaken. My Father s care is round me there. He holds me that I shall not fall, And so to him I leave it all, He holds me that I shall not fall. Welcome We are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today. To Our Guests, We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. Spiritual Care If you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder will be standing next to the pastor following the service. Children s Check-in We are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children s Church or any other children s activity. Several kiosks are available in the Welcome Center. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available if you need assistance checking in. Children s Worship We offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. A leader will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service. Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We also provide a Mother/Infant Room located beside Nursery 1 which is equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you. Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew s Hall. 19
