SEPTEMBER 23 11:00am Worship Meeting People Where They Are 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 5:00pm Hotdog Supper & Mission Study Alma Hunt State Missions Fellowship Hall From Our Pastor... Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions This Sunday night, September 23 at 5:00pm, we will enjoy our annual Alma Hunt missions dinner in Fellowship Hall. Make plans to come out not only to enjoy a good meal but also to support and learn about missions work going on here in Virginia. Join me in considering the loving sacrifice God is calling you to make so that we can Be Love for Christ through our BGAV missions ministries. Go to this link to learn more about how your gifts support God s work in our state: https://wmuv.org/2018-alma-hunt-offering-resources/ BGAV Disaster Relief Team on Standby I am in contact with Rob Moor, our LBA Director of Missions, concerning disaster relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Florence. At this time our BGAV DR team is on stand-by but will most likely be called into action later this week or next week. If you have not yet completed it, there is some online disaster relief training to become certified as a BGAV DR volunteer (https://my.bgavdr.org/). We continue to pray for those who have experienced and continue to experience the effects of this disastrous storm. Part of our missions giving to BGAV supports this disaster relief work. Now, we must consider if God is calling us to go as part of the boots in the mud efforts to help in the care, feeding, and restoration of those who have lost everything. If you are interested in volunteering or exploring the possibility of volunteering, please let me know by phone call or e-mail as soon as possible. Old Testament Course We have seven members from Abingdon Baptist and about ten from First Baptist Wylie, Texas enrolled for the Old Testament Survey III course, the Hebrew Prophets, which I will teach each beginning Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30pm in our chapel. It s not too late to participate. If you are interested, please let me know or just come out to the first night of class. Day Trip to the Historic Greenbrier Hotel Our group will travel by church coach on Friday, September 28 for a day trip to the Greenbrier Resort Hotel hosted by Deborah Bryan. The coach will leave the church promptly at 8am. We will enjoy a delightful lunch at Sam Snead s restaurant overlooking the beautiful Old White golf course. Cost of lunch will be on your own. After lunch, we will tour the hotel and grounds with time for shopping in the exclusive hotel shops. The hotel provides complimentary shuttle buses around the grounds. How much you walk will be your decision. You may choose to walk around the grounds or take the shuttle from building to building. We will conclude our day with complimentary tea and delicious pastries in the main lobby at 4pm before our departure at 5:30pm for the trip back to Abingdon. We plan to arrive back at the church around 8pm. It will be a full but enjoyable day. Please call Trina in the church office to make your reservation today. Seats are limited on the coach and will be filled on a first-come basis.
