A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR Happy Easter everyone. Let's keep the spirit of this special time alive in our hearts, and share it with the world. It isn't over. We have a fifty day season dedicated to this amazing event, Jesus defeating death, demonstrating that there is a power in this world greater than death! Easter is unique for many reasons. For one, unlike Christmas, there is no fixed day for its celebration. Easter always falls on a Sunday so the date always changes. Of course it is always in March or April. This is because it is always set for the first Sunday after the first full moon of Spring. The Church chose this time so that nature herself could proclaim the reason for the season. As Spring speaks of new life, so does Easter. As the full moon speaks of light and saving knowledge, so does Easter. Sunday speaks of the resurrection from the dead, so does Easter. Originally, we didn't have an Easter celebration. every Sunday was an Easter celebration, as is still the case today! This is because it was on Sunday, the first day of the week, that our Lord rose from the dead. This is so important that we transferred our Sabbath rest from Saturday to Sunday. Sunday has become both the first and the eighth day of the week. On the first day, Sunday, God began creation. We messed it up with original and personal sin on the seventh day so on the eighth day God began the recreation of the world! It is still a work in process until our Lord returns at the end of time. So let's keep spreading the Good News! Let's keep doing the works of mercy and praying. For, we proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection, until you come again! God Bless! Fr. Joe PARISH RETREAT Join Fr Joe for a Pilgrimage on Friday June 10 th, 2016. The time will be spent at Holy Resurrection Monastery in St. Nazianz s, a Byzantine Rite monastery. Departure is at 8:00 a.m. and arrival back at 4:00 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. Reservations are being taken at the parish offices at Cathedral (432-4348) and St. John s (436-6380) or by calling Barbara Conder (436-6380 Ext. 206). Sign up now for this time of prayer and reflection in the Eastern Rite. Space it limited! What are Latin Rite and Eastern Rite? The Catholic Church is a communion of 22 particular churches. Each has its own distinctive way of worship and spirituality. What unites these churches is a common faith in the doctrines of the Universal Catholic Church and the acceptance of the Bishop of Rome (Pope) as head of the whole Church. The majority of Catholics belong to the Roman Church (Latin Rite) however a large number of Catholics belong to one of the 21 Eastern Rite Church, with the largest numbers in the Byzantine Church (Eastern Rite). 2016-17 CREDO FAITH FORMATION AND SACRAMENTAL PREP REGISTRATION Registration for the 2016-17 Faith Formation year and sacramental preparation classes has begun. St. John the Evangelist 413 Saint John Street, Green Bay, WI 54301 920-436-6380 Liturgical Schedule Tuesday: 8:30 am - Mass Thursday: 8:30 am - Mass Saturday: 5:30 pm - Mass Sunday: 10:45 am - Mass PRAYER CORNER "I am Love and Mercy Itself. There is no misery that could be a match for My mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted- it increases. The soul that trusts in My mercy is most fortunate, because I myself take care of it." ~Diary of St. Faustina (1273, pg 459) This week pray these words slowly, let them soak into your soul like spring rain. Jesus loves you with such tender mercy and desires to take care of you! If you don't feel like you can trust Him in all things, then pray for the gift of trust.
